How good will this team be when Newman returns?

You can't help but be impressed with the Cowboys performance. 37 offensive points and five turnovers on defense. The defense really stepped it up this week. In the NFC, only Green Bay is playing as well as we are. We currently have the #1 scoring offense by 10 points over the nearest team.

Can our offense be stopped? The offense should get a good test against the Bears next week. The defense has to be licking their chops over the ideo of playing against Grossman.

Imagine how much better the defense will be when Newman returns. Newman can match up one on one with another teams best receiver, allowing RW to spend more time closer to the line of scrimmage.

When Newman returns we should be able to get more pressure on the QB.

You're assuming Newman is at full speed.....
Yes. I'm hoping he isn't brought back until then. The Cowboys appear to be able to win in the regular season without him. The playoffs are a different story.

Jerry has a pattern of bringing guys back too early. That's what concerns me.

That plantar fascia injury will be nagging him all season long.

Is that your professional opinion Dr. Jeff?

We played more press coverage today after we went up 17-13 and stopped them cold except for the short drive they had after TO went all Chad Johnson and got the penalty.

Newman means more press man, more pressure, more takeaways, and more short drives for the offense.

Today the offense helped the defense with 35 minutes TOP, the defense rewarded them with several short fields. Special teams had perfect kicking, a good punt return, and an onside kick recovery...we had a team victory today.

I like what I am seeing from the team, but I think that our offense can, and probably will be stopped at some points during the season. At the very least, by ourselves.

Depends how soon Newman can return and how healthy he will be. I'm not sure he'll be ready to go for the Bear game even though we sure could use him. I'm also concerned that we'll have lot of trouble with Rams and their QB Bulger.

In passing situations, I'm sure Newman will return to the slot with Reeves manning the outside position as AGlenn did last season; however, I wonder if any thought at all will be given to keeping TNew outside and leaving Nate Jones in the slot....probably not, but depending on how the youngsters keep playing with Newman out, it could be interesting.

After two games...

Pass Defense ranked 31st - Horrid

Run Defense ranked 11th - Good!!!

PTS per game ranked 26th - Bad

We have a lot of work to do in the secondary.

We need Newman to return.

As a former patient who has had the same exact injury as Newman, the only non surgical remedy after treatment is to stay completely off your feet for a few weeks: no running, no walking, no lifting weights with your bad foot. From everything we've read, Newman has not done this. He is running and practicing, and by his own admission he is still having some discomfort. Any podiatrist and any former patient will tell you this. This is not an opinion. Go check for yourself. Newman even said he expects this will be a lingering issue for the rest of the season. Go back and read his interviews posted on his board.

my feeling all along has been to just get him off it, into the pool for cardio purposes. He's obviously continuing to irritate the stupid thing by practicing on it. Mark my word, this is a rare injury and they don't know exactly how to deal with it. If they did: and would have kept him off it the last 3 weeks, it's very possible he'd be close to 100% by now. Yeah, just speculation I know, but as others have posted in here: basketball players have had this and that's how it was dealt with.

I think the training staff and medical staff have an understanding of what they are doing and how to treat the players on the team to help get them back on the field as soon as possible.

I think the team should just bite the bullet and have Newman sit until after the bye. This team has fallen apart in the last few decembers. Why not just get through the 1st half and let Newman come back much closer to 100%.

The schedule isn't that brutal until then. Patriots, Bears is pretty much the extent of the really GOOD teams.

I'd be pleased if dallas hit the bye with a 5-2 record and Newman coming back, possibly with Glenn.

You are 100% correct. The problem remains that the trainers' goal is to get Newman back on the field ASAP. That is sometimes in start contrast with what needs to be done to completely heal.
