NY Giants Draft Alabama WR Amari Cooper to Pair with Odell Beckham Jr.

New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. exploded onto the scene as a rookie last year, hauling in 91 receptions for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdown catches—in only 12 games played.

With Beckham's emergence—along with the return of fellow wideout Victor Cruz from injury—it would stand to reason that the Giants are set at the receiver position.

But general manager Jerry Reese and coach Tom Coughlin see an opportunity to add to a position of strength and do so by selecting Alabama receiver Amari Cooper with the ninth pick in April's draft.

The Giants offense is set to explode in Year 2 under coordinator Ben McAdoo, and Cooper presents quarterback Eli Manning with another dynamic weapon and provides injury insurance in the event Cruz's body doesn't hold up. The addition of Cooper gives Big Blue a top-five offense in the NFL and helps New York claim a wild-card berth to return to the postseason for the first time since 2011.

While the Giants fall short of winning the Super Bowl, Cooper has a phenomenal rookie year and will form a devastating one-two punch with Beckham for years to come.

I would rejoice because they have continued to ignore the OL in favor of skill position players.

Its not so much as ignoring the oline but drafting BPA,they went BPA last year too when they could have drafted Martin to shore up their oline.

First off...I don't think he falls that far...it COULD happen, I just don't think it would.

I think the Giants will look for Oline in the first, if not they go defense...however I guess if he did fall, it would be hard for any team to pass on him.

I heard giants fans were wanting martin. The giants do strange things in rd 1, so ill wait.

Gurley has already improved our pass rush, I am willing to bet that D-Law will continue to improve this year (he did get a sack in both of our playoff games), Mincey is a good backup, and Crawford is a pretty good 3-tech. Pair any sort of 1-tech with that and our pass rush should be much improved which will help out our CBs a great deal. I am not overly worried about what other teams may or may not do.

Our secondary wasn't terrible last year in spite of having lackluster pass rushers. Improve the pass rush, secondary looks improved.

I doubt we do much this offseason with our secondary, we are going to roll with Carr, Mo, Scandrick, Wilcox, and Church. We'll address secondary next season when we let Carr go and let Mo walk.

A strong front end helps the back end so much and often times gets very little credit for having done so. We get this pass rush right and our secondary will look like all pro's every Sunday, Monday and Thursday or whatever day or night that they play.

Better hope that ball control offense of Dallas is still functional since they released the main cog in keeping the ball out of the hands of the Giants' offense.

Yet Jerry spent his sheckles on corner backs because he did not understand the basics off this game.

No pass rush, no pass defense.

No pass rush, no pass defense.

The recent SB winner disproves that meme very thoroughly. 13th in sacks, no double digit sackers, and the defensive member that got them over the hump was a corner.

There are more than one way to skin a cat and oversimplifications like the above are the ones that demonstrate the conclusion.

I don't know why people continue to throw around these clichés like you can't win a SB without a dominant pass rusher and when was the last time an Elite WR won a SB. So many teams have won in so many ways, it's foolish to make such absurd claims. The reality is you want as balanced of a team as possible on both sides of the ball. Those are usually the teams that get hot and win it all.
