How long could we rest Newman?

There are no top or near top CBs that we could get without parting with clevelands pick. Actually I doubt we could get one that would be worth that pick anyway. Samuel has reported to the Pats, and he was probably the only likely one that MIGHT be worth it. Assuming they would make the deal anyway.

So now the question comes down to how long does it take to heal the heel.
Can 3-4 weeks of rest make a big difference? I think we could be ok right up to the Rams game without Newman- no one in the first 3 games really has the WR horsepower to ruin us. Then comes the Pats in 2 weeks. Moss and company- we would need him then for sure. BUT can that time make enough of a difference? Newman at 85-90% is better then anyone else we can get right now; the question really comes down to how much will this injury reduce Newman's effectiveness? And is there any risk of further injury if we play him anyway?

that is what i was asking for computer guru's to do,

do a search on recovery time for this type of injury that newman has;

i do think we can survive the first 3 games or so, but after that, we need a top cb, if that means giving newman another month in september to get fully healthy, then i say yes

because the top cbs will be gone, and what it would cost you to get a good cb would be too much.

i still think on that note, we need to draft mcfadden in first pick of clevelands if its a high pick next year, with our other picks i say, use our # 1, # 2, and if need be # 3 to move up and get a top cb, that is the strength of the nfl draft next year, besides junior rbs, is strength of cornerbacks in 2008.

I have no problem taking mcfadden, but unless we have a top 3 pick, the way things look now, we probably don't get him. Of course, a lot can change - and will change - between now and then. But unless Cleveland really stinks, we'll probably have to package muliple picks to move up and get him. And I'm not sure I'd want to do that given needs at CB, WR, NT, etc.

In the last 15 drafts, the bust rate for CBs taken in the first 15 picks is very low (Quentin Jammer). The bust rate for RBs taken in the first 15 picks is MUCH HIGHER. Meanwhile, the bust rates for RBs taken after 15 is much lower. While the bust rate for CBs taken after 15 is much HIGHER. Logic and history indicates we go after a CB with Clevelands pick and use ours for a RB or something else- like maybe a WR.

I imagine they will look at how healthy he is and determine how much if any time he plays. If the game is close and near the end of the game, they may decide to play him even if he is a little bumped because wins are hard enough to come by, let alone trying to rest your best player from game 1.

Plantar fasciitis isn't an injury per se...it is an inflammation of the plantar fascia. Believe it or not, the more you move around on it - the better you feel. The pain comes after INACTIVITY. Like when you get up in the morning or after you've been sitting for a while. He can play. He just needs to keep stretching his arse off when he's on the sidelines.

He's been resting it a week and will have 2 more weeks before the Giants game. Understand he is wearing a boot to bed at night which help stretch his foot so he wouldn't have pain in the morning. During the day he should also be wearing a special shoe with a 1" heel. Also think there other things our trainers can do to improve injury recovery.
