Owens isn't even close. He can't even get elected to the Pro Bowl despite leading the league in TDs. In fact, I would move just about all your "close" players off to a "no chance" category and move Gonzalez, Strahan, and Bailey to a "close" category.

edit: Actually, I'd move Gonzalez to "no chance."

agreed.

the only locks playing now are

Favre, P. Manning, Brady,

and Tomilson if he plays like this for 5 more years.

Vinitieri should go too (but the voters and a K might be troublesome)

I think Gonzalez will get in. Hes gonna finish his career with GREAT numbers. He needs like 2 TDs to pass Sharpe and if he puts up his average for another 2 or 3 years he will finish with numbers that are better then Irvins.

To say that Gonzales & Strahan aren't locks for the HOF is ludicrous.

I agree, Tony G is a lock. He's been the best TE in football for about six straight seasons and all of his numbers are suprassing the previous great te's.

Strahan, he could be iffy I guess, espically if Derrick Thomas isnt getting in so far.

Strahan is a lock in my opinion...

You put Carson Palmer "close" already? Hes only been in the league 4 years and played 3.

I probably wouldn't include Champ Bailey... MAYBE in like 4 or 5 years if he continues to play at or close to the level he's currently at.

By Glover, I hope you don't mean La'roi. He's only had 2 seasons with 10 or more sacks and in 11 years he only has 77 sacks. He's a good player, but I don't see any way he would or should even sniff the HOF.

I mostly agree with the rest.

Oh yea... A few that I might add.
I would put Jason Taylor in the "close" category... This guy has been a beast through most of his career. You could probably put him closer to the "locks"
If you put Champ Bailey in "close", you would probably have to add Ty Law by default. I would put Law in before Bailey.
Warren Sapp (as much as I dislike him) would probably go in "close" over Glover.
Edgerrin James could go in the "close" category too.

I'd also include the LT for Seattle whose considered the best LT in the game today and has been for several years.

Also don't forget our own Larry Allen whose still playing and made the pro bowl again this year for SF. He's certainly a lock, even if he's not playing at the level he was in his prime w/us. He's been a pro bowler 95-06 & at 3 different OL positions and has 3 SB rings. I assume he'll go in as a Cowboy which our HOF writers would certainly encourage/support. Once a Cowboy always a Cowboy.

Actually LA has only one ring since he was drafted and played in the 95 season. I watched some 49r games this season and by the end of the year he was gassed by the 4th qtr. No improvement at all from what he was with us- if anything he has dropped some more. And yet he makes the Pro Bowl.
Real indictment of the whole process right there. BUT I agree he is a first ballot HOF. From about 97 through 2002 he owned everyone he went up against- there were stories about players that had their coaches put in bogus injuries so that when they got owned by LA it would not look so bad.
His ankle injury in 2002 made a huge difference in how he played- he got obseesed with strength and ignored agility and stamina. Never was the same after that.

His rookie year was 1994.

Ugh- always get the date wrong on LA. He was a rookie being used out of position at tackle in 94 where he was worked over pretty well. Starting in 95 he began to really work at it. For those few years before Erik WIlliams car accident that side of the line literally was a stone wall on pass blocking and an unstoppable force on run blocking. Its no accident that Emmitts best year was when those two were playing.
