How many draft picks, rounds, and which other teams we have in 2009?

I saw a post saying we have Clevelands 3rd and 4th. I know we traded some of ours (but 1 was 2010 I thought).

Anyone have a summary of what we got for 2009 as of now.

I know, I know, I AM enjoying the journey right now, I'd just like to know who to route against in the other games also hehe.

2009 Draft

ROund 1- Our own pick
Round 2-Our own pick
Round 3-Our own pick and the Browns pick
Round 4-Our own pick and Detroits pick
Round 5-Our own pick
Round 6-Our pick goes to Titans for Pacman but we get Miami's
Round 7-Our own pick

MOntrae Holland was for a 2010 5th and we are set to get 3 comp picks I believe.

Thanks man!

3 comp picks? Julius Jones, and who else? Keith Davis came back to us, and we traded Fasano and Akin. Nate Jones and Jacques Reeves?

Cheers,

Do their performances/contracts this year decide on how high our comp picks will be?

If so, then if Julius keeps this up, then we could very well see a 3rd/4th. Dunno how Reeves is doing, but he DID get some $20m, so we could be seeing a 6th or so.

Jeez, just thinking about adding 8 picks in the first 5 rounds to this team makes me smile. Then I wonder where the roster spots are going to come from. I have to figure the draft will be heavy on OL and LB with a WR, Safety, and DL thrown in there. There will also need to be some trades, either draft picks or players such as Carpenter or Spears. If we draft a WR high, then either Hurd, Austin, or Stanback will be gone.

In the absence of Adamjt13, I'm too lazy except to forward Wiki on the subject on compensatory picks. I'll try to figure it out when I'm not under the influence of Spaten Premium, the fine German lager:

"Compensatory picks are awarded to teams that have lost more qualifying free agents than they gained the previous year in free agency.

"Teams that gain and lose the same number of players but lose higher-valued players than they gain also can be awarded a pick, but only in the seventh round, after the other compensatory picks (... after all the "real" compensatory picks as stated in the previous paragraph, does Wiki mean?).

"Compensatory picks cannot be traded, and the placement of the picks are determined by a proprietary formula based on the player's salary, playing time and postseason honors with his new team, with salary being the primary factor.

"So, for example, a team that lost a linebacker who signed for $2.5 million per year in free agency might get a sixth-round compensatory pick, while a team that lost a wide receiver who signed for $5 million per year might receive a fourth-round pick."

Well-if Julius keeps up his torrid pace, we could very well get a 4th rounder. Dunno if Jacques Reeves is starting, but I would think considering he signed a big contract.

Did we gain any FAs(other than our own)? Looks like we're in pretty good shape then!

By NFL definition, Zach was what they call a "street free agent", which means he was cut by the Fins before we signed him... as a result, he's not part of the compensatory picture... we didn't sign any free agents this year that would negate any of our free agent losses-- PacMan came via trade, Holland came via trade, Zach was a street free agent...

I thought Tank was a free agent....along with Canty

Canty was a draft pick, Tank was another of those street free agents after he was cut by the Bears (and he was signed prior to the start of the 07 season, not after it)...

Again, the Cowboys signed no free agents this past offseason... and they lost Julius Jones, Jacques Reeves and Nate Jones... I think I read where AdamJT13 said that Julius Jones could fetch us another 4th, Reeves a 6th and Nate Jones possibly a 7th...

I would bet the bank on what Adam said.

At least once a week I remember how many draft picks we're going to have, and it makes me excited for next April.

The way Jerry likes to move around by making trades, expect ESPN to talk about the Cowboys all draft weekend.
