Did any of you guys read any of those pre-draft mags, and if so which one was it BSPN, Street and Smith, Athlon, or the Sporting News.

I read the Sporting News pre-draft mag and what they said about Anthony Spencer, I think they had him going in the fourth round of this past draft and they said he would be a solid player in the league but he doesn't have "great pass rushing skills" but yet he had 10 1/2 sacks last season.

I truly don't believe that all of these so called "draft prognosticators" take the time to watch game film on all of those players being drafted what do you guys think?

I think they don't do their own research. They put what they think will sell in them.

Bottom line: sell magazines.

I think TSN has a problem seeing him just as an undersized pass rush specialist and not as a 3-4 OLB. I'm pretty sure they down graded Ware when he came out too. I know that some of those mags did.

Exactly, they don't do any research on any player.

I'm giving serious consideration to doing a fan driven Draft Magazine based off my website which I am still building.

I think where these magazines undermine themselves is when they predict where someone will go.

That will be a great idea Hos, I think the fans here on this board can do better analysis on a draftee than most of those so called "experts".

I look forward to it.

http://nfldrafttracker.com/index.php

It is going to be getting a new look soon. Building a sortable database of every draft pick ever made then going to focus on 2008 prospects.

One of my plans is to provide team focused draft guides. In other words, if you look up the Cowboys you will see their roster, past drafts with a focus on recent ones, Free Agent movement, injuries, and possible needs.

It is an ambitious project that is going on year 2 of work. I do a little on it every night. When I call it fan driven I mean to say that the prospect write ups that end up on the site will be the best ones from fans who submit them and they will get full credit. I personally feel that many fans are more interesting to read than some of the so called experts.

I have been considering the same, Hos.

Let me know if you pursue it further. I'd be interested in contributing.

...afterall, I WAS the first poster on your website...

I have bought the Sporting News for years, last year I was a little disappointed in it, but this year I thought it was just awful. In the past they where pretty good with their evaluations and predictions where people would go, but this year as soon as you opened it up you wondered what they hell they had done.

I will not buy it again.

Those draft mags do their mock drafts with a Bingo machine. They just write all the player names on bingo balls and crank the machine and boom. The mock draft happens. ;)

I bought a few of them this year - Sporting News, Lindy's and ESPN's.

It seemed this year that Sporting News tried to be controversial for controversy's sake.

It looked like the intentionally bucked conventional wisdom in an effort for attention.

Their evaluations and draft value ratings differed greatly from both other mags - and from what NFL clubs aparently thought as well.

It remains to be seen who will be proven right or wrong, but Sporting News will either look like geniuses or fools.

I'm betting on the latter.

I laughed at the Sporting News' evaluation of Quinn initially. Maybe they were right after all. I will give them another chance next year simply because they took some risks and weren't the norm. I will keep an eye on their lists with an open mind next time.

He may have dropped, but not to the 3rd round like Sporting News felt he belonged.
