How Many Sacks Did Allen Get vs. Free?

Remember, that sack/forced fumble was on Witten. So, did Allen get a sack on Romo after that? For the most part, I thought Free did a pretty good job against arguably the best full-time DE in the game today. Columbo, on the other hand, looked like (fill in the blank with your own choice of derogatory words here). Thoughts?

Allen had the one sack but he was pressuring Romo nearly every play cause he was pushing Free all over the field.

I like Doug, and what he showed at RT this year, but, no, he did not play well against Allen.

I don't know off hand how many sacks Allen had, but Free was definetly overwhelmed at left tackle. He needs more work if he is going to be the future if your left tackle has to have help he is not a true left tackle. Columbo was bad, the Edwards kid just used his speed all day long to get around Marco. Marco if playing all season might have been able to handle Edwards, but the long layoff and I bet that leg still is not 100 percent made for a long day! Just a bad day all around.

When we gave Free help because he couldn't block Allen, then Colombo was exposed on the other side and #91 ate his freakin' lunch.

To be honest, the front 3 didn't handle the tackle stunts very well either. The Vikings were big and strong, but apparently more athletic up front than we were.

When we ran the ball down their throats on the first drive of the 2nd half, I was very hopeful because running was working and because it would stop them from running all those twists up front...but then Romo seemed to audible to that stupid counter toss play (which I actually love with Felix), but they were ready for it and Barber was tackled for a 7 yard loss...end of drive.

Free has been spending all of his time at right tackle for the last eight games. Not an easy transition just to jump to the opposite side. Free has excellent footwork and could be a very good left tackle in the future.

He went up against the best defensive end in football.

Not to many people can block that guy.

But he wasn't the only one eating us up. Colombo got destroyed the entire game. Kosier too.

Thats quite possible. But yesterday, in a bad situation, it was not ideal for sure.

I think Allen had 2 sacks yesterday and the other guy (Edwards) had 3 sacks in the game.Columbo was abused yesterday by Edwards who had 8 sacks or so during the regular season.Free had his hands full with Allen and was getting beat at the point of attack more times than not.

I don't think any team in the NFL has somebody on the bench at left tackle who could have just jumped in there during a playoff game and not missed a beat on that side against that defense. There aren't enough blue chippers at that spot as starters in the league, much less as depth. And, even if you do have a serviceable replacement, it's unlikely they'll have exactly the same set of skills as your starter, which means your protection schemes have to somehow adjust on the fly.

Doesn't mean Free doesn't necessarily have the tools to play that spot (or can't in the future), just means that he's no Flo, and there was no way he (or pretty much anybody in his position) could have been completely ready for that moment.

Then, you combine that with Free also being the guy who should have spelled a rusty Colombo at RT, and the mess you traditionally get when an OL unit (that's essentially played together all year) gets rearranged, and it's recipe for disaster either way.

If Free adds some strength, we might have a very good player.

Allen simply bull rushed him most of the game...effectively, I might add.

And yep, the minute they saw how immobile Colombo was, they should have put the more athletic Free in the game.

Just another questionable decision by the coaching staff.

Don't measure Jared allen's effect on the game by just sacks alone. The guy was 1st team all pro and was relentless all game long. If free had be singled on Allen Romo wouldve been carried out in a body bag.

Remember that Allen was playing with a big lead, it's much easier to russ the passer when you are up by three td's.

Flozell going down was huge. Before he got hurt, he was absolutely beasting on Jared Allen.

ok aikman said it best. you cant expect your ol to block forever. at somepoint the defense will get loose. romo had plenty of dump offs to felix.but his eyes were squarely downfield. romo went back to what got him in trouble, holding on to the ball too long. the long ball didnt get the cowboys in the playoffs. the dinks and dunks did. thats how dallas wore teams down. instead of a simple step up into the pocket and flip to felix which was open every pass play they ran. romos eyes were fixated downfield.

was there a passrush? sure but romo put himself in alot of bad posistions by trying to play sandlot football instead of sticking to what got them to minnesota. romo had a very bad game. i think his envy of favre got in his head a little too.

Romo's eyes were not downfield, they were watching the pass rush.

Free blocked Allen better than Flo did.

You guys are overreacting and need to re-watch the game.

While Allen's bullrushes were disruptive he could not get by Free.

Free was playing under difficult circumstances as there was blood in the water so to speak. He couldn't get off the ball quick because of the noise, we were mostly passing and Allen was firing off the ball like a mad man.

I think it is quite unlikely we're going to find someone in the draft better where we are drafting. You usually need to get into the top ten to get a great LT prospect.
