I was reading Hos's thread and I commented this was my 50th training camp and I got to wondering how many here have had 50 or more training camps with the Boys.

So how many training camps does this one make for you? How do you feel about all those numbers? Which one do you remember best and why? Not the season but the TC.

Just thought I'd add one last offseason thread before it really starts jumping around here. Maybe this one will be a little interesting.

I don't know. But I remember going to a few practices in San Antonio one summer as a kid when Campo was the coach and thinking that for an NFL team they didn't practice very hard.

I don't know how many years, but I remember waiting for the paper in the morning to read about what transpired in Thousand Oaks the day before, way back in the Landry years. I went to many practices in Austin, and even more in San Antonio.

I've attended about 8. They were 92, 93, 95 and then some in the Parcells, Wade and Garrett eras.

I haven't been to any. I was talking about how many you have lived thru while bleeding blue. But going to them is a great thing to add. I'm envious. I was going this year but something always comes up.

Aah. It's hard to say exactly when I started focusing on the preseason. I'm sure I just watched regular season games initially. My guess is that I've been watching the preseason for about 35 years.

Since I've really been paying attention to preseason practices and games... probably about 27 in a row now.

Hey, I recall watching Dick Butkus go at the Oilers in pre season, back at the Astrodome.

As to being a fan...the '50's. That focused in '60 when I was delivered uni's with a star.

Is that how many TC's we've personally attended, or basically how many years we've been following TC?

Me too.

I think this is 53 or 54 for me. Although I don't recall the first one much.

I started following the Cowboys in 1972 so this will be my 42nd training camp. The first Cowboys training camp I attended in person was in Aug of 1980 at Thousand Oaks. I had just moved from Texas to Ca a month earlier and couldn't wait to see the Cowboys train live. The drive up to Thousand Oaks was exciting and it was a beautiful day. Had to stop at a gas station and ask where California Lutheran College was. When I arrived I saw the practice fields but there was no one around. I had no idea what the practice schedule was so I just sat in my car and waited. A saw a couple of kids riding their bikes near the practice field and asked if they knew when the Cowboys practice.

They said they practiced earlier that morning and will be back out later in the afternoon so I continued to wait. Sure enough fans started showing up and not long after that the players arrived. The only disappointment about that training camp was not getting to see Roger Staubach who had just retired. Landry conducted practice standing in what appeared to be a deer blind using a loud speaker. That was my most memorable training camp because it was the first one I attended but the 89 training camp was a close second. That was the last Cowboys training camp in Thousand Oaks and the first under Jimmy and Jerry. I arrived at camp again not knowing what the practice schedule would be. I was told the Cowboys were going to scrimmage San Diego at a high school field down the street which was a pleasant surprise.

The high school field was within walking distance from the practice fields and the admission was only $5. I can still remember Jimmy clapping his hands with enthusiasm as he was walking around the field. You could tell he was full of piss and vigor. As Aikman, Walsh and Babe Laufenberg warmed up you could easily see Aikman had the much stronger arm. After the scrimmage they allowed fans on the field to get autographs it was pretty cool. If you haven't attended a Cowboys training camp you should it's a fun day with souvenir tents and food. The training camp experience for fans under Jerry is a lot different than it was years ago during the Landry/Schramm regime.

I grew up in North Carolina so I was never near any Cowboy training camps. I watched all of their pre-season games on tv but back in the 70's and 80's there were only a couple games on tv. It wasn't like it is today. I remember going to the mall and buying all the pre-season football magazines every summer though. lol I follow the pre-season a lot more now because with the internet and NFL Network you can really follow the progress of the team daily. I wish it was like that back then.
