I was a LA Ram/Roman Gabriel fan growing up in Midland, Texas. Please don't ask me why. A retired DC QB named Don Meredith came to speak at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes convention and spoke to me, signed my football in early 70's and I was hooked every since. Weird huh?

i only wish that younger cowboy fans could have witnessed the 70's up to 1984.

we were really special to watch.

if we had michael downs and everson walls the past few years ............we would not have been 8-8....trust me.

they would have two picks both against sanchez this sunday.

i don't even want to mention what mike would do to ertz and celek..

md 26 was a tight end killer.

Cornell Greene when he was SS before being moved to CB..

was the best guy I ever saw defending TEs.

Even better than Woody.

When we had Greene, Herb Adderley and Mel Renfro..

we were flat out a shutdown defense.

Since 1968. Blame or give credit to my Dad. The Cowboys were the Saints next opponent that year. He told me the story of the Ice Bowl from the previous season. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for those who come out on the short end of stories like that. A fan was born on that day.

This is a great thread. We need to revisit our long held feelings sometimes and how we arrived at them. Bandwagon fans don't understand why we stay so loyal despite any on or off the field problems with the team. The years and the tears do not kill our first love.

It's really hard for me to believe that being a fan starting in 1974, and the Super Bowl's with the Steelers and Broncos and all the years between then and when we won the Super Bowl in 1992 is less years than the amount of years it's been since we were last in one. It just doesn't seem possible.

My whole life, but consciously about 18 years. Dad is a Cowboys fan, so I was born into it. I'll say I've been personally invested in the team since around 1996 when I began to actually understand the concepts of what was happening on the field.

Can't remember exactly. I was a fan in the late 60's, but I distinctly remember being crushed when Baltimore won the Super Bowl w/ a late field goal. I think that was 1970. I would have been 9 at that time. Will be 54 on Christmas day.

That sound you hear is my bones creaking.

You are one of the few that has me beat. I fell in love with the Cowboys in 1977/78. I was 8 years old at the time. (same age as my son is now) It's been a helluva roller coaster ride ever since but I stay loyal. (live in MIchigan but can't stand the Lions)

I became a fan when I was 5, but I didn't really know what was going on until I was 8.

I go back to Tony Liscio and Pettis Norman.....Lance Rentzel, Billy Parks and Ron Sellers....and HOFers who came to Dallas and got a ring Herb Adderly(although he had several in GB), Lance Alworth and Iron Mike. Great memories. Thanks all for contributing here, a lot of veteran fans on this forum.
