Again you make assumptions on why someone posts their ideas that don't concur with your thoughts. I can cite you chapter and verse why I think this team will play around .500 ball.

Not one of the items I feel are significant have one thing to do with your assumptions.

This has zip to do with emotion. It has to do with the experience and age of players on this team.

Here's the problem as I see it in prognostications. Especially among the fan base which often slide to far to the negative or positive due to the emotion involved.

I didn't say every fan.

Some fans like yourself simply don't know what they're talking about.

Go check the the average age of our team and compare it with the league average.
This is far from an old team. Quite the opposite. Almost our entire core group of players we are counting on are all in their prime.

Our oldest unit is our OL. Of course most people realize that after QB, OL have the longest shelf life and often take the longest to develope.

Anyone calling our O line old knows zip about football.

Easy there killer.

I completely get what you're saying, but our linemen are not exactly young. And I dont know if I'd go as far as saying they know zip about football.

They just dont get that linemen do not peak at the same age as backs or receivers.

That being said, I'm not worried about the line's age. Just certain depth.

No, the bottom line is this team is 9-7 3 of the last 4 years.

That's pretty much they should be expected to finish until they prove otherwise. All the 11-5s and 12-4s have to be classified as wishful thinking.

This is a prime example of the negativity I spoke of.

Ask your self a few questions:

1) Was the 2008 team a carbon copy of the 2005, 2006 and 2007 teams?
2) Did you not see an upward trend with the talent base on this team starting in 2003?
3) Let me help you with that last question.........How would you rank these Cowboy teams in order of talent on the roster? 2005,2006,2008.

The upward trend in talent on the roster starting in 2003 is obvious even if the results have not been an upward sloping curve.

You want to see it before you believe it. That's fine, it's your right.
But most of what we do on this site and especially thread is discuss what might be. Nobody's making guarantees here.

Good OP and thread. But this is the bottom line. Tell me what NFC team is better/more talented and why?

Just on offense, the Saints. Watch out for them, they're back to being an NFC contender

Just on defense, I want to say the Giants or Philly. But I dont know. Our defense is for real and will carry us a few times this year.

I was just going to post this.

That's really the beauty of the offseason. You have a chance to "analyze" what went wrong....and "assume" that it's all fixed.

Everyone has a chance to renew their faith in their team.

Right now....I'm excited about the Cowboys. I can point to numerous things. Now, will they necessarily pan out the way I want?

Maybe not.....but then again, they may.

Some team has to win. Why not ours? We have just as good of a chance as any other team. We saw last year how injuries...or the ball bouncing the wrong way can change the course of a season. It's these things that are unpredictable that makes hope possible.

That's how I see it and why I'm bullish on the team.

We had the best defense playing for about 8 weeks after Wade took over. Unfortunately week 16 and 17 washed that all away in most of the lesser football minds.

Our secondary has the potential to be the best it's been in loooong time.

Not saying you're claiming this, but not every positive spin on the team assumes we've fixed everything, or that all the planets will align perfectly for us and will have no injuries.

We did not properly address our OL depth in the draft or FA. As I see it, we only have one quality reserve in Holland.
We need Adams to stay healthy and give us a very good year. That's a big question mark.
I believe if we do fail this year it will be because of lack of depth here.

I'm also not sold on Roy Williams. I just don't believe he has the quickness and ability to uncover that you want in a true #1 receiver.
Now I hear he has lost weight and is working to improve his quickness. At least it's nice to see he's trying ti fix the problem.

I'm super high on the rest of the team. If we get a good answer to one of these question, were a contender. If we get it on both, we're going to the SB.

You're right....I wasn't.

I was just saying that the beauty of the offseason often includes most fans thinking this.

Often, we downplay the weaknesses of our team and overplay our strengths.

I agree though.....still major areas we haven't addressed. But we're really no different than any other team out there.

Amen to that.

Every team has a least a few questions. And most would really suffer if more than one offensive lineman went down.

I say we have fewer questions than most.

But screw the questions. We focus far too much attention on the questions.

How about the answers? We got a lot of really good answers.

Romo's a great answer.
Barber/Jones is a great answer.
Witten/Bennett.
Ware might be the best answer in football.

I see now that any discussion with you will end up with your smarmy asides while dodging your obvious error in making fact statements like you understand someone else's opinion.

The fact that OL men play longer than most positions doesn't mean all offensive linemen have that longevity. Again you assume. Which speaks to emotional comments based on nothing but fandom.

I guess that part of your response is based on first hand knowledge since you have clearly demonstrated that your feelings for this season are dripping with dreams of grandeur. A purely homer based commentary.

Thanks for the debate. Unfortunately it fell short when you began to label and sidestepped listening.

How can anyone realistically sit there and expect 9-7 again for this upcoming season?

You act as if other teams don't have injuries, lackluster performances and bad luck on calls and bobbles.

In time you will learn that all teams suffer setbacks, but the good teams perservere and overcome these many bumps.
We need a Coughlin-like leader in the guise of Shanny or Grudin.
Please, no Holgren, he seems soft like our current clown.

Actually, I think Holmgren would be a great coach for Romo. He developed Favre and Hasselbeck. I think he can really do wonders for Romo.

I would point you to Jacksonville to see how they prospered with offensive line injuries. Same with Giants in our second game of the season.

Certain injuries transcend the importance of any particular individual position on the field.

I dunno, I'd rather wait until the team proves they can than accept it as a given.

Seen far too much go wrong far too often to assume this team will improve on its record.

Hence your tongue-in-cheek sig, bashing Tony Romo.

that worked really well for last years team... the games are not about TALENT alone< what about the will to win, I dont expect a team, with no heart to find that will, in one offseason... thats why Jerry cleaned house and drafted almost 10 rookies on a team that has no roster spots according to most.

this team has to rebuild its heart, then they can have pride, then we can talk about talent!
