How much leash do you give Weeden?

Team will be stacking the line knowing that Weeden presents little threat, if Dallas plays too conservatively just trying to run the ball it could get ugly early. Our run game right now is a little suspect, the worst thing to do is reel the offense in. I think we have to go out there and let Weeden run the full offense...it's the only way we have a chance right now. If we can get to Dec within a game of the division we'll get Dez and Romo back and make our run.

I'm more concerned about how he is used, first.

I don't think we can play him too conservatively. I think we need to keep some things safe early on, but I would also like to see them throw it deep. Even if it does not get completed or even if it gets intercepted, at least it will keep the defense honest so they don't clog up the throwing lanes and protect against the screen pass.

I think if we use him in that fashion and he doesn't comply, then I would be willing to yank him earlier than if we basically play it so close to the vest and simply don't know if his lack of performance is all due to him or to the conservative play calling.

I like this approach,,, Weeden has a decent arm and can make the throws, we just need to keep him out of obvious passing situations where the opposing defense can mess with his mind and trick him with coverages/blitzes. The team needs to mix it up, don't shy away from passing, and keep themselves ahead of the chains. The penalties have to stop.

They'll do what they've been doing the last two games... lots of passes to the back and hitting the TE's.

The offense has been "reeled in" to a certain extent the last two games.

Just a refresher on one analysis of Weeden coming out of college...

Analysis
Strengths
Weeden has an NFL-quality frame that allows him to look over the offensive line and deliver his throws without a hitch. His quick release is his strongest asset, as he consistently gets the ball out with a compact throwing motion and strong delivery. The ball zips off his arm and he has the ability to fit it in any tight space with great velocity. He is "all of the above" in terms of being a mature, poised leader. He is an accurate passer both short and long, and he has that gunslinger mentality to go for the deep ball and give his receivers a chance. He understands route progressions and throwing the ball to where his guy can make a play.
Weaknesses
Despite his baseball background, Weeden is only an average athlete and is very limited when scrambling. He has a tough time getting outside the pocket, and his accuracy and touch decrease immensely when he scrambles. He seems to grasp route concepts and looks for his second option, but he will hold the ball for extended periods of times and could be a product of his quick-read offensive scheme.

A qbs best friend has to be of course the OL but also a respected run game. We need to get the running game going because that'll help setup Weeden for success. If we have to count on him to throw the whole game; then forget about it. We need longer runs and like the game against the eagles, use the clock. Until Romo is back, I believe that will be the emphasis from here on out.

The fact is that with any player, if you're weak at something you're likely going to be at a disadvantage at that part regardless of how much you work at it. So instead of trying to play up your weaknesses, try to play to your strengths as often as you can.

Weeden is good at looking at one guy and throwing to him, pretty much what he did at Okie State. His weakness is when he has to go to his second or third read. I'm not sure how an OC can minimize this for him. Every QB in the NFL has to be able to do this. I don't trust this guy for 2 months.

I don't trust him either, but we have what we have. And if somehow we can get to 5-4 and get Romo back, maybe we could do something.

It's not about minimizing him as much as it is about playing to his strengths. If we can give him the maximum opportunities to play to his strengths, maybe we can do something.
