Unless you switch your defense back to a 4-3, the idea of picking up a quality pass rusher is somewhat moot, imo...a pass rushing DE like Freeny wouldn't play much, couldn't play as an everydown DE in the 3-4. You can't turn him into a pass rushing LB unless you plan to give him Ware's job...you can't rush both LB's all day.

Remember, we had a pretty good pressure guy in Glover, but he was let go because of the 3-4 scheme.

I have nothing against the 3-4, but I can't help thinking that you could put together a pretty dang good 4-3 with Ware, Hatcher, Ratliff, Spears, Ferguson, and Canty in the line rotation and James, Aydele, Burnett, Carpenter, etc. in the LB rotation, but I know that's not going to happen.

He would be a great addition as his versatility should make Coach Parcells drool.

I don't think we do it having just spent a first round pick on Carpenter and a contract on Ayodele.

Carpenter was supposed to be the pass rusher on the outside. He better be able to start next year on the strong side. Dallas cannot afford to miss in the first round. I really hope Carpenter proves all of the nay sayers (including me) wrong and and tears it up next year.

LaMarr Woodley out of Michigan would be an interesting choice too. I think he has over 10 sacks this year, and was a LB out of HS.

I don't see Freeney being a good fit, he doesn't play the run well as a 43 DE, and I don't know how good he'd be in coverage.

Freeny might be a definite possibility for a FA pickup. The guy is a great pass rusher and would team up with Ware to terrorize opposing offenses. I think Freeny is getting tired of playing for the Colts. The defense is always getting abused and he constantly has to take on LTs. I think he would be happy playing OLBer in the 3-4 so he wouldn't have to take on Olineman and try to stop the run.
