Signing Hardy killed our chances at getting a 3rd round comp pick for Murray (which I believe we would have gotten without the Hardy signing)

Odds are with that comp 3rd, we draft Conner Cook. He was there target at the top of the 4th, so it is very likely they would have drafted him with their comp 3rd round pick.

While admittimg speculative, without the Hardy signing Cook may have become the Cowboys QB of the future

If Prescott turns into QB alot of people nowdays (and not just Cowboy fans) believe he could be, the Hardy signing may have paved the way for that

Possibly, if you look at the contract values provided by overthecap.com, it *could* have been a 3rd, since the final 3rd round pick awarded was for a contract valued at $9.1 and the first 4th round pick awarded was for a contract valued at $7 million (Murray's $8 million is almost in the middle), but I think it would have been a 4th.

Murrays comp would have been a cliffhanger since it was in that middle ground

As I posted before, the Cowboys scouted Dak hard before the draft and were always targeting him in the later rounds regardless if they drafted a quarterback early. That said, if a higher round quarterback had been picked along with Dak, it's quite possible we would have seen Dak with the 3rd and 4th backups and he may not have looked nearly as good.

Getting Dak with a supplemental 4th and seeing him shine in preseason... pretty amazing stuff.

I think the Kellen Moore injury was just as pivotal and seeing what Dak has. Everything happens for a reason. Had Moore not had gotten injured we would have most likely saw him with all the scrubs the whole PS.

^^This. Amazing how things can work out in life. What looked like a disaster initially could turn out be the biggest blessing.

There was a report that Dallas wanted Dak anyways even had they traded for Lynch they were after Dak. If they would do it for Lynch the same can be said for cook

That was my reaction also.

Plus - is it really confirmed that we wanted Cook? Jerry did confirm the interest in Lynch but the talk of trading up for Cook always seemed like it was ESPN chatter that was never confirmed.

I heard Hackenburg was also a QB we wanted. Funny it's every QB that went from Lynch to Dak lol

I remember most guys on the board wanted Cardale Jones after we picked Dak. They complained we didn't take best QB in the board haha

yup, 9.2m was the cut-off for 3rd round comps and Murray was 8m.....it would've been another 4th but we would've lost the last 6th and Rico Gathers
That would have been fine with me. I would trade Rico for another 4th.....
