The old Parcells would get in the faces of each and every player on the O line and scream....

" Starting this week I'm watching you...every freakin' one of ya and you better show me that you can block for the *** pass and you better show me that you can block for the *** run or guess what??? You aren't gonna play here any *** more. Have some dam balls and block somebody. Prove you belong in this locker room and in this *** league and you better start proving it now or you'll be sitting. You'll be pumping gas somewhere next year or mowing the lawn for your mommy...Now give it all on every damn play because I'm watching you, I'm watching you good. Your choice, block like a damn man and show you want to play in the NFL and stop being the *** laughing stock of this league or roll over and let these KC pussies make you look bad. If you think I'm kidding I'm not, I'll cut you in the damn film room next week and you'll be picking up your last paycheck. "

This rant wouldn't be very motivating.

It would be if Parcells was the one giving it. People seem to be scared of the Tuna....

Sometimes players get used to it and tune it out.

There are only so many times you can curse before someone starts ignoring you. Jimmy Johnson was a little different. He literally would make people unemployed. Coach Parcells is a bit more patient and tries to get them up to standard, sometimes too long.

Your right with today’s athletes they get their little feeling hurt so easy. Besides today’s players know they could just get another chance with a different team at the end of the season. Not many players today with the old school mentality.

I think the Tuna has evolved just like the game and players have evolved. That's what makes him better than other coaches. (cough, cough, Gibbs, cough, cough). He will motivate the line this week. Just watch and enjoy.

You also need to have someone to fill in when you cut a player to make those threats. Right now Parcells doesnt

It doesn't matter who is giving it. Yelling like a lunatic will not motivate anybody.

And there are some football players on this team that it would like backfire with. They are all adults. Larry Allen and Marco Rivera have more than 10 probowls between them and are both rich. I don't think Parcells can threaten either of them, and I don't think either of them are giving less than 100%.

Torrin Tucker obviously isn't afraid of Parcells. Rob Pettiti is giving a good effort and I am sure he will improve in future seasons, but for right now, he needs more experience and possibly some work in the weight room.

Fear isn't always the best motivating factor.

In some cases you have salary cap implications that play a part as well. It is not that easy to cut a player if your team has to take a big hit in their cap.

Do you really think Petiti's problem is that he's not "motivated" enough? Do you really think the feeling of "I'm going to get cut if Micheal Strahan beats me once" is going to make him perform better? Have you ever had a damn job?

Again there was a time when players would take the verbal abuse and yes it did provide motivation. Coaches like Halas and Lombardi did instill fear as in players knew who the boss was and never questioned it or else they were shown the door. These coaches were not looking to be your buddy they were only interested in winning football games so you did exactly what you were told

There is a difficult balance between pushing buttons with fear and being personally encouraging that all great coaching motivators have to tread.

RIght now with the cap and this late in the season, BP cannot just cut any of the starters- so the threat would have to be shaped differently.
What BP could do: " anyone that dogs it in this game I am going to personally call out in the Monday press conference. I am going to show film and every instance of your screw ups will be highlighted. THEN I am going to make you run 10 laps for the next three days with the whole team standing on the sidelines laughing at you"

I didn't read what you had originally written but I hope you're not sacrificing your free expression too willingly. The last thing we need is righteousness taking over in here.
