How to Fix OLine

Oline has been a disappointment, especially the tackles. There is an easy fix without spending in FA or high draft pick.

Move Guyton to RT and Smith to LT. Move Bass to LG. Or Move Beebe to LG and start Hoffman at C. Basically, make them play their natural positions instead of fitting square pegs into circles.

Focus draft and FA on defense. Boom! Problem solved. I should be GM.
Stupid they have not done it already. They at least should have moved Smith to LT and Bass to LG!!!!

Our OT’s have pass blocked terribly the last 2 games.

Rinse and repeat of what you heard Broaddus say. Be original.

There are Cowboys fans that live far away from Dallas and have never heard of Broaddus. Don't be so obtuse and narrow minded. There is a big world outside Dallas.

And here I thought youtube was only available in DFW ... California is pretty far from DFW last time I checked.

No thanks.

You'd think after watching Guyton for 2 seasons everyone would realize why pretty much every team projected him to the Left side. He's a finesse player. He's gone from 9 sacks and something like 18 penalties as a rookie to 2 sacks a 7 penalties. Let's see if he continues to progress and finally learn to trust his athleticism.
Why would you move an all pro caliber guard out to be an average tackle?
They've spent 2 seasons developing Beebe to Center. That development has gone as bout as well as they could have hoped. Moving him now would just be silly.
Hoffman is unlikely to be here next season!
Would Smith be an “average” tackle though? He played pretty darn good as a rookie. We def need a new Rat though….kicking Smith out to LT and Guyton to RT (his natural position) at least better fills the tackle holes. That LG may be easier to fill vs trying to fill a tackle, considering we REALLY need those two firsts to be on D. Just an idea of course.

Most people dont know who that dude is. Guess you listen to every teams podcaster. You have too much free time. Get a job and get off welfare

Not really. He just didn't completely **** the bed as was expected by the fan base here but he gave up 6 sacks (2 more vs San Fran) and had 13 or 14 penalties in large part because he's ill equipped to handle outside speed rush at LT.
Charles Cross taken earlier gave up 7 and same amount of penalties and there was rumblings of him being a bust!
Guyton played RT in college primarily because the QB was left handed. Doesn't mean it's his natural position in the NFL. First hint was when he skipped the bench an both the combine and his pro day. Second was when LEOs started bull rushing him last season and he basically quit. Teams projected him to LT in the NFL and it wasn't just because his RAS scores were off the chart a 9.73 but because he's a finesse tackle. He improved from 9 sack and a mind numbing 16 penalties last season to 2 sacks and 7 penalties this season. Moving him now after 2 seasons of development would be counterproductive.
They have Nathan and Cornelius (impressive during pre season) to compete at RT assuming they move on from Steele which is probably unlikely!

As long as we have a plan for RT I guess. Guyton has been in and out the line up but I agree he has improved. Just figured of they moved him and put Smith at LT the tackles are set, don’t need to draft a RT. I think it might be easier to replace the LG than a tackle in general. I was pushing to play earlier this year Thomas but he has been shaky, has been cooked a few times at both R and L tackle. I wanted to see Asim Richards last year some too. We will see, we don’t have picks in rounds 2-3 so we got to spend those 2 firsts on impact players on D. Hopefully we get a new DC who can at least get a little more out of the players we have with better scheme and game plan and adjustment.

The tackle problem isnt something new. We had this problem now for 3 seasons (including this one). We tried to fix it with two premium picks. In both tries we failed.

Guyton is no RT. He will have the same and more issues as he has at the LT spot. If you dont believe me listen to Nate Newton or other people who know OL position.
Biggest problem with Guyton is he is no guard too. The FO wont have the luxury to move another failed try to find our next LT to the guard position.
And whats more Guyton - after two seasons - doesnt look as our future at LT. Too bad as a player, too often injured. Those are major concerns that should be handled pro active and not by closing the eyes hoping the problem will handle itself by talking some empty phrases into mics of the media.

You can move Smith back to LT . But there was and still is a reason he was moved to guard.
He wasnt able to beat out an injured Tyron Smith who was essentally begging to have his job taken away.
Smith is a medicore LT and not the solution there. He is a very good run blocking guard. You would only weaken the OL by moving him to tackle. You can do so but only if you view this as an stop gap solution until you find your franchise LT.

We have issues at both tackle positions and center. Booker is not what you should have been expecting from a guard drafted that high. He has issues in the pass pro (what was known form his college career) and is not dominating in run blocking. Good player with upside. Nothing against the player, but if you spent your premium draft pick on a guard you expect to find a players who is All-Pro from day one and never look back.

But our guards are the least concern. You of course can shuffle around but i dont see any good idea you have. You only create more questionmarks and weak down further our OL.

Another thing is that our main issue is not the defense.

For sure we need an upgrade bad there. But when we are done with the upgrade and finally have a defense we had under Quinn the real issue with only be able to show up.
With a good defense we will be able to play games against the better teams (first or second playoff round). And then you will see our real problem. That is the QB position.

As in the years before with a very good defense you wont be able to win the big game with medicore to bad talent at the QB position. You need at least a good player there.

Yes, we need an upgrade of the defense. But be aware that this wont give you what i expect every fans goal should be: Win a Super Bowl.

Anyways...

You should be GM. Thats true! ;-)
