First, the Dallas Cowboys need to find a guy that is well respected in the NFL, knows how offenses, defenses, work, how salaries cap work, can recognize talent like Jimmy Johnson could, or Tom Landry. Let Jerry Jones listen to this guy, while he is working in the organization, either as a employee or consultant, but Jerry Jones listens to him.

Second, the Cowboys work with players and restructure their contracts, some players they let go, some players take a pay cut. Example:
Miles Austin, cutting him would save 5.5 million dollars, Miles has been injured last 3 years, you cant count on him.
Tony Romo, Cowboys restructure his contract, saving hopefully 8 to 12 million dollars, do whatever it takes.
Hopefully, don't have to pay Jay Ratliff money, after he said he couldn't play, even his agent said same thing, but Jay played for Bears this year, which Jay didn't live up to his contract.
Cowboys bring in Carr, CB, have him take a pay cut, he hasn't played up to his 12 cap hit this year or even for 2014.
Cowboys work with Demarcus Ware, restructure his contract, as well as restructure Jason Witten whom I love as a player.
Restructure Orton's contract, or heck, I would go after QB Josh McCown who is from TX and wants to spend more time with his family.
Cowboys restructure Lee's contract, hopefully this gets Cowboys under contract, and have about 15-18 million left to go get the 3rd step.

Third, only way to fix this issue and the Cowboys is this. Create cap room, about 15 million if possible, go get 2 to 3 really good players, at least 2 of them that have played for a super bowl team and were dominant. Why am I saying this: look at the Cowboys history:
In 1969, the Cowboys signed Mike Dikta, for about 5 years from 1966 to 69 the Cowboys couldn't win the big one. Then, in 1970, the Cowboys signed Herb Adderly, as soon as Herb got here, he told the Cowboys players im going to show you why you haven't won the big one, after showing the players his superbowl ring.

In 1992, the Cowboys traded for Charles Haley and Thomas Everett, both dymantic players, and Haley had been on a super bowl team, even the great Troy Aikman said, we didn't really know how to win the big one, till Charles got here, what it really took, the swagger, the hard extra work, etc.,..

In 95, Jerry, yes Jerry Jones signed Deion Sanders, we went back to the superbowl. In 2003, after medicore years under campo, etc... Parcells came in, bill parcells immediately brought in players like Jason Ferguson, Keyshawn Johnson, Marco Riveria, and Terry Glenn, boom, Cowboys were in playoffs again. I still believe if Terry Glenn didn't get hurt in 07, the cowboys would have won that championship game against giants and at least gone to the superbowl.

If you listen to Jason Garrett, he said in his last press conference for 2013, we need to keep taking the next step, moving forward. To move forward in my estimation for the Cowboys they need to get some players in here, that were leaders on superbowl teams, show the players on cowboys roster what it takes. Go back and listen to what demarcus ware said after the eagles game, he said something like don't know what its going to take to finish, we have been knocking on the door to get into the playoffs for past 3 years. If supposedly the leader of your defense says that, then who is really leading the defense on the field and knows for sure, the past is over with, those losing days are over with?

Fourth, not sure what Cowboys plans are for other coaches, but I would strongly talk with Norv Turner, who knows Jason Garrett and Jerry Jones. Look offensively what Norv did for a bad team in Cleveland. If Kiffin is let go, reports are that Cowboys might be interested in Ray Horton, and other good defensive coaches.

Fifth, the Cowboys are picking 16th or 17th due to a coin flip in upcoming draft. Two things I would look strongly at the draft. If QB Johnny Manziel is coming out, and I think he is or said he was, draft him, ( I know some friends on A & M, they said Manziel is barely 6-0, if so, he will fall some in the draft, and this is the part Jerry Jones will like, Maziel will sell tickets, in reality, he is a young Brees, Tony Romo type player that will sell tickets, which Jerry Jones will like ) if not, possibly trade down to about 21st or 22nd, you can still get a good player, and this is where getting the guy I mentioned about that knows football, is a trader, wont back down. For example, we or at least most of us know, the trade down Cowboys did to 31st this year, we should have gotten a 2nd and 3rd round pick, or at least a 2nd and 4th. Jimmy Johnson could make those kind of trades in his day, get a guy in here, that can see talent, let him help the Cowboys. Heck, even the 49ers, made trades after us and got more than we did in other trades.

Sixth, I would bring back Brian Waters for insurance at OG, who was an influence on our OL, and I would make sure that Bernadeau, Mackenzy if he needs any surgery done, its done in late January or early February, so he is at least ready for OTAs and training camp, I would make it mandatory that all players if they need surgery, they take it and be ready for OTAs, no excuses.

Seventh and finally, whoever is responsible for not seeing that the players were ready and in shape with all the injuries Cowboys players had, with hamstrings etc... I would show that person the door. Last I remember we had 12 players with hamstring injuries, way to many, someone wasn't doing their job.

No thanks to Manziel. Not a high pick anyway, drops to 4 or 5th round, maybe.
Some pretty good point though.

The only way to improve is if the man at the top changes his approach to football operations in a productive and strategic method or he hires a real GM. If that does not occur the same results will happen next year.
