I guess that is one way. It won't be the way we go but it is one way.

for me, Suh only comes into this house via the opposing team on game day.
plus who said Detroit wasn't resigning suh
would Suh sign a 12m a year contract?
therefor we dont need to restructure Romo

Would Dez sign a 7 year 88m contract?

I just wrote in another thread that it is rare for a young player like Suh to hit the open market and I think if he does, it is something that Dallas should look at.

A young, dominating DL like him that has a great work ethic and loves to play the game almost never sees the light of day in free agency. However, because of some questionable contract moves made by Detroit, the best DT in the league is probably going to be on the market. Suh has reportedly told some close to him that he would like to play in Dallas or NY (bigger market teams) and if he's interested and on the market, I say take a look at the guy.

I normally don't want to sign expensive free agents from other teams but Suh will be a big-time exception to that. I don't like signing guys like DeMarcus Ware was this past season. Older and on the downside of their careers. That eventually ends up with a lot of dead money. Or questionable character guys with a lot of talent. That will kill a team. However, Suh is young, dominant and adds fear to the offense he's playing against.

If Suh had been drafted by Dallas, everyone would be saying, "We can't let Suh get away. Pay the man." Just like they are about Dez. The only difference is that Detroit drafted Suh and messed up the contract so much that they probably can't sign him unless Suh doesn't want to test the open market... but he does.

Dallas has plenty of ways they could afford him and plenty of ways they could structure his contract. What he would mean to Marinelli's defense is almost immeasurable. The Pressure on the QB would increase dramatically and penetration into the backfield would too. Marinelli would use that guy all over the line; at the 1-tech, 3-tech and likely DE in some situations. Marinelli is a brilliant defensive mind and having a guy like Suh could be a game changer.

I know Dallas has talked about spending wisely in free agency and I know they've not signed many high priced guys for a few years, but Suh does fit the profile of what they want in a FA: Young, dominant, hard worker, intense and loves the game.

They could sign Suh and then go BPA in the draft and it would be a whole new ball game next season.

JMO, of course.

Romo needs to be restructured. Not doing so accomplishes very little and puts unneeded restrictions on the offseason

Suh is now officially a FA and it would take over 15m in salary and a 25m cap hit for DET to resign him

The exact terms of the deals are meaningless. It's all about the guaranteed money and 1,2 and 3 year payouts.

I wish there was a love button. You nailed it.

Suh is a game-changer, figuratively and literally. He is the reason you save up your salary cap dollars.

Fairley and Hughes don't equal Suh and anyone else imo.

7 million a year for Murray is really pushing it. How much would be guaranteed?!

When in the salary cap era has it been successful to sign a free agent from another team to a record setting contract? Is there any case where that hasn't been an unmitigated disaster? And any reason to think Suh would be any different?

Yeah. Don't like overpaying for Murray, and Suh's not a guy I'm making an exception to bring into Dallas for. I've got more interest in Greg Hardy if he's available, and in just upgrading the DL rotation in the draft.

I also think we probably need to retain Carr in a restructure. There's not a guy I like better for cheaper on the market.

Guys like Suh don't hit free agency. DET is over a barrel because Stafford, CJohnson and Suh were all top 5 draft picks under the old rookie pay scale. It skewed their contracts upward dramatically. It would be almost impossible to keep all 3.

In general it's a bad idea, but guys like Deion, Reggie White, and Peyton were critical in getting their teams to Super Bowls. Because of how close we are, and Romo's age, I might make an exception this year for a stud DL. If we don't get a big name FA DL, then I believe we need to sign a couple of next tier guys that will upgrade our talent and depth. We cannot go into the draft desperate like we were lat year. I liked the Lawrence pick a lot but we overpaid to move up because we were desperate. Fill all the holes in FA and upgrade the team's overall talent in the draft.

When weighing in on Murray remember his valve is not the sum of his offensive abilities but also how he helps the defense, take him away and the defense loses some of its shine and suddenly small cracks become holes. We would all love the big home run hitting RB but what makes Murray perfect for the defense is that he takes small deep cuts on each carry which eat clock time the biggest nemesis of our D this year. So when you place a number on him comparing him to other RB's you are not comparing apples to apples. The longer we stayed on the field offensively the better our odds of winning IMO the slow death reaps the greatest benefit.

I would welcome Suh if we signed him. Its not like he's some over the hill guy, he is truly a dominate force on the DL and would make everyone on the DL better. He does come with baggage which makes some people hate him, but so did Charles Haley and he ended up turning out well for us. Some of the guys on D need to have some edge and swagger, and Suh has that in spades.

If we had to choose between Murray and Suh, it becomes difficult but behind this OL its alot easier to find a RB than a truly dominant DL. Give me Suh everyday and twice on Sunday. Adding Suh, picking up a DE and CB in the draft, and guess what........we could have a dominant D to go along with all that offense we already have.
