How would you create the perfect QB?

I was watching Cold Pizza and they had our favorite quarterback as the guest. I'm talking about none other than Mr. Joe Theisman. :ralph:

Anyways, Joe was promoting a fantasy football contest at Reebok's website for charity, and the hosts gave the ex-quarterback a creative topic regarding his ideal QB. He was asked to pick from current quarterbacks -- the best arm, the best legs, the best brain, the best heart, and the best leadership -- in order to create the "perfect QB."

Here is what Theisman picked:

Leadership:
img8128619.jpg

Tom Brady - Said proof was the 3 Super Bowls.

Brain:
fbc_peyton_manning_nfl_164x225.jpg

Peyton Manning - Said no other QB in today's game is asked to control the offense as much as he is.

Arm:
daunteculpepper.gif

Daunte Culpepper - Thinks he has the best arm in the NFL now and Moss greatly benefited from it.

Legs:

Michael Vick - Probably the only choice that no one would disagree with. It's Vick!

Heart:

Brett Favre - Talked about how he plays with injuries, and the usual Favre man love.

--- So who would you pick to create the ultimate current QB?

-- What about all-time players? Who would you pick from to make the ultimate all-time QB?

I hate Theismann, but it's tough to beat the Frankenstein QB he built.

I'm going to answer this question a little differently than originally posed. Rather than take bits and pieces from a bunch of different QBs I am going to pick one guy and say he is the QB "mold," the guy most likely to be cloned as a QB.

John Elway.

I don't think there's ever been a bigger arm than Elway. When he needed it he could wing it.

Mike Vick has better legs than Elway, but Vick runs too often. Elway ran when it was twisting the dagger in the defense's heart at just the right time.

Poise. Perhaps only Staubach or Montana compare to him in this respect. Still he led his share of comebacks and was every bit as feared with the ball late as any QB I've ever seen.

JMO, but if you take any QB in their prime and Elway in his prime and put them on the same team, the other guy rides the pine. Again, that is JMO.

Put him on the 49ers WCO teams under Walsh with the weapons Montana and Young had and his numbers would have been out of the stratosphere.

There have been a lot of great QBs. Elway is the mold.

I like that.......go get a vile of DNA from each, create a pill.....and we will become very rich men. :D

the mold starts with Montana hands down.

extremely smart, could look off 3 WR's
extremely accurate, especially in crunch time
cool under fire, see above
always put that fear into a defense, they had to cover all their bases
intimidating, and very seldom injured.
and most of all, a winner

i know some of u are going to say intimidating? but if you were around back in the day which is now about 20 years ago, you knew if Montana had the ball and needed a score, you were doomed, seen it to many times.

If I had to build the perfect QB I'd just recreate Staubach and have him play in the NFL right away as opposed to going to the Navy. I'd collect titles and laugh at frankenqb who tosses wayyyy too many INTs and presses when things get tough.

I guess Theismann didn't wanna use his own legs for Franky. Hmm, I wonder hwy?

No picks in his super bowl apperances really says alot about Montana. The guy didn't make mistakes at crunch time. He also did pretty well in KC after he left SF, with hardly the weapons. They were showing Jerry Rice highlites last night, and boy, Montana threw a nice ball.

I would have to go with Elway as well. A combination of strength, power, poise, leadership, great runner, accurate, and knew how to win as well. (always had a smile on his face even when he was upset, oops that was big teeth)

I think that's a fair assessment. It really is amazing when you think about who he had surrounding him during on all those post-Terrell Davis Super Bowls, and how often he either made it to the Super Bowl, or got pretty damn close. I remember the first time I watched a game featuring Elway with my old man. Elway had just evaded a blitzer, was entirely off-balance and falling backwards, but still managed to chunk a long ball... with pinpoint accuracy I might add. My old man looked at me with big eyes and asked: "Did you just see that?"

Why is the Aikman episode of "Coach" popping into my head?:D

Nothing is better than a thread that allows you to insert the obligatory Aikman on Coach reference. :laugh1:

Yeah, Elway also wins the all-time teeth award, if nothing else. I can't think of a single QB I'd rather have chew my steak.
