Dude, it was put to bed after we passed on him last year and drafted Ware. It's you who keeps waking that tired story up.

That's a market deal for Howard.

I think he'll be a good signing for Philthy....unfortunately.

Carolina is also quietly making some very good additions.

I know your thoughts are respected here Nors, so, I'll tread lightly ...

WHy so hard on Mr. Howard? His joining the Eagles will team up with some other notables ...Jevon Kearse on the other defensive end position -- gives the Eagles a four-man rotation of Kearse, Howard, Trent Cole and Juqua Thomas at defensive end.

Howard's condition (right knee), forced him to miss time in each of the last two seasons. Howard admitted the knee wasn't perfect, but he said it was good enough. Howard believes he's healthy.

Howard, 29 (not old), had 45 sacks [actually 44 1/2] in six years with the Saints. Howard twice registered 11 sacks in a season. He first did it as a rookie in 2000, then duplicated the feat in 2004. Last season, however, his sack total dipped to a career-low 3 1/2 as the Saints endured a miserable three-win season that saw them play home games in three locations, none of which was New Orleans (he saud the Hurricane Katrina and some other things were very stressful). Howard said he couldn't blame his drop in production on Katrina, but it sounded as if the Saints' season took its toll on his talent.
"I had career lows in every category.

I don't agree that this was wasted money. You may (or at least Bledsoe may) eat those words.;)

Trent Cole is actually the best name in that lineup, IMO.
He's gonna be good.

You know what ...I started to notice Cole during the last part of 2005 -- he was a breath of fresh air in a very rough 2005 season. He's an exciting player.

So much for Howard to Dallas - its put to bed.
There's a two edged sword to your statement, waking things up? Geez - that never happens on this board:rolleyes:

This is todays news as Eagles overpaid for the guy and signed him. Player suspended last year and wicked overrated. Good luck Eagles!!!!!!!

That old avatar (which will be back) is none other than Hank Scorpio. Not a comic book character, but a Simpsons character.

Its the greatest Simpsons episode ever and a must see for any Cowboys fan. Homer buys Tom Landry's hat and says his dream is to someday own the Dallas Cowboys.

My new theory on Kyle Kosier.

BP: Hey Procter, you are quite a player. Know anyone else up there in Detroit like you?

Procter: Kyle Kosier.

So if no financial terms were disclosed. How do you know they overpaid ?

here you go, they actually paid him MORE than he wanted:

Eagles sign former Saints defensive end HowardBy John Clayton
ESPN.com

Free agent defensive end Darren Howard agreed to a six-year, $30.5 million deal Sunday night with the Philadelphia Eagles. Included in the deal was a $9.5 million signing bonus and a $1 million roster bonus, topping guarantees offered by his team of six years, the New Orleans Saints.

Howard

Howard had turned down a $10 million signing bonus to sign a long-term deal from the Saints in 2005, hoping to do better in the next free agency period. His instincts turned out to be right.

Howard will work on the other side of Jevon Kearse, giving the Eagles one of the best one-two defensive end tandems in the NFL.

The Saints had franchised Howard the past couple of years to try to keep him with the team on one-year deals but decided to let him hit the free agency market. The Eagles called him as free agency began and enticed him by offering $4 million a year and $7 million to sign.

After he decided to visit Philadelphia on Sunday, Howard received a better offer and more up front and wasted no time in agreeing to the deal.

Howard had 33 tackles and 3.5 sacks for the Saints in 2005. Drafted by New Orleans in the second round of the 2000 draft from Kansas State, Howard has 262 career tackles, 44.5 sacks and two interceptions.

No, it wasn't comic book guy. It was Hank Scorpio. Played by Albert Brooks. He was a guy trying to take over the world, ended up fighting a James Bond-type character....

Anyway, no biggie. Its football season now! Good morning back at ya!

Not at all, if he revives his career under Jim Johnson then we'll be talking about it again, no doubt. I tend to agree with you, though, Howard's better days are behind him. Not a typical Eagles' signing, a sign perhaps that they are reaching in a bad free agent crop.

Howard is a good football player. I hoped he wouldn't sign with Philly. That's a good signing.

I'm also hearing rumors the Eagles are contemplating paying Owens the bonus, and trading him. That would be a bold move. I doubt they'd follow through.
