I would love if any one had any gifs of this to share, particularly at the NFL level. While I have little doubt on his coverage abilities, my biggest concerns with him are in the run game

He has looked ok at times in limited snaps. He has looked bad at times in limited snaps.

The times that he has received starter heavy snaps (Rams/Packers for example), he was horrific - truly terribad. Until he proves able to not be completely and utterly exposed when receiving starter snaps, I am not sure how he could be considered a solid starter.

I would LOVE for him to work out for us, but if the FO goes into next season expecting a lot from him like they did this year, it could cost us dearly once again.

And he started to turn the corner against the Falcons. It's like the concept of player development and player arcs is lost on you and you fixate on the worst you have ever seen and pretend that is all that will ever be.

That would require fights over the DVR and a whole lot of mess that I am just not willing to do this season. I didn't pay for the all-22 this year.

Absolutely not - I love the development I am seeing out of him. He has undoubtedly improved. However, showing development and promise in spot snaps is not enough for me to hope that the FO puts their trust in him heading into next season. That could easily result in another lost season - it was that costly earlier on this year in those key losses.

He started playing better 5 games ago and has played about half the snaps during that span. The last two games he was at ~35% with Lee and Hitchens healthy.

He's been playing 20-50 snaps in those games and you are acting like he only gets 5 a game.
 
2 years into the Jaylon Smith experiment and we are still arguing about how good he will be. Not about how good he is.

I'm currently arguing with someone about how good he is. It's boiled down to how much playing time he gets now but I really don't see how you can make this claim given the past two pages of discussion.

The Cowboys aren't hoping he becomes a league average LB, they are counting on him regaining his Notre Dame form.

And that form would have made him one of the top five players in the 2016 draft.

Now, I'm not an idiot, and I know he has to play a lot better than he's shown this year. But a lot of that is rust from a full 19 months away from the game as well as the fact his knee-foot-leg-whatever was probably only about 75 percent for the bulk of the season, if that. But it's way, way too early to give up on this guy. Too much talent there.

...after those couple of games he has improved, much. Now instead of looking lost, he contributes to finding the ball carrier.
 
He needs to be at Will. That's all there is to it. He's a sideline to sideline chase down backer. He's severely miscast in the middle.
 
there was a play in a recent game on play action pass that he started forward and then when he realized it he went into his drop
it was really really smooth and quick
it just stuck out to me
then against the Giants he looked so bad
the one play everyone noticed it seemed he pulled up or something
hes never lacked for effort
i think maybe he has finally hit that wall
its not that surprising
he hasnt had any reported physical setbacks but something has changed recently
i think next season after off season and camp maybe drop 20lbs back to his college weight he could be much improved
but no one knows

Besides, do you know the bust out rate for 2nd rounders?

He's always been afraid of contact. He can rush the passer and used to be good in coverage. Will is his best spot, but unfortunately, Sean Lee is way better.

His issue is not taking on blocks. It's knowing which gap to fill when his reads change dynamically as the DL work upfield. Most LB come in not able to take on blocks. He's better than Hitchens at it already.
