Disclaimer: I know this will not be a popular topic for many Cowboy fans, so please understand this was strictly a scenario that peaked my interest the more I researched it. This is hypothetical and I posted it because I think some may find it interesting.

Let me first state that I love Dez Bryant the player. His passion is unmatched, he intimidates opponents, has made his claim as the top WR, and he scores touchdowns..alot of them.

After reading about Dez's current troubled contract negotiations between the Cowboys, David Wells, and new agent rep Roc Nation.. http://www.***BANNED-URL***/sports/...-adviser-new-agents-clouds-contract-talks.ece ..This got me thinking about what would happen if we traded Dez now before he potentially walks next year if contract talks break down.

What could the Cowboys get in return for a Dez trade? I'm thinking there are a number of teams that would be willing to give up a 1st rounder and a 2nd/3rd rounder, maybe even two first rounders. What if Minn trades a 1st and AP! Look, I know I'm dreaming, but stay with me here. My gut tells me if we did trade Dez, somehow..someway.. AP would end up a Dallas Cowboy. Exp since it would free up $13mil.

So how do we replace him? Well, replacing Dez's physicality would be hard to do, but spreading his production around may not be as hard as you think. We haven't tapped into receiver potentials like Escobar, Devin Street, and Chris Boyd. We have proven talent like Witten, Williams, and Beasley. And with the additional first rounder, we could grab a potential #1 WR like Kevin White (6'3" 215 & runs 4.3's) or Amari Cooper (6'1" 210 & runs 4.4). I personally like Kevin White bc he's as big as Dez, but faster. And more notably is the exact opposite character traits as Dez.. "White won't be taking many pre-draft visits prior to the 2015 NFL Draft, but teams say that is because their character reports on White are good and they don't have questions about his make up."

Lets face it, Dallas is a "running" team now. If AP was in the backfield and we add a top tier WR in the first round (locked up for cheap for the next five years btw)..I believe we could still dominate on offense. This would eliminate the Dez Question marks and the fear of a potential character breakdown after signing a big contract with a Jay-Z lead Roc Nation (really?!). I get that Dez wants to liberate himself and become a man that makes his own decisions.. But signing with Roc Nation, dropping your mentor (David Wells) like a bag of rocks, and giving the Jones family a reason to doubt you is not a great start to his independence.

Dez turned I another remarkable season (88- 1,320yrd- 16td).In saying that, I'll leave you with this food for thought from last year performances...
Playoff games: Greenbay 4- 38- 0; Detroit 3- 48- 0

Reg Season Playoff teams: Arz 2- 15- 1, Ind 5- 73- 1, Sea 4- 63- 0

Top four Games: Tenn(2-14) 10-103-1, NYG(6-10) 9-151-0, Jax(3-13) 6-158-2, Phi(10-6) 6-114-3

Well, I am not certain on this but can Dallas even trade Dez since he hasn't signed his franchise tag? Also, lets say he does sign it and is then traded, I believe the signing bonus $ stays with the original team(Dallas). Then, Dez has to agree to new terms with the new team. I don't really understand the semantics of the tag.

No team as of now has laid claim to him that would result in giving up two top picks, why would Minnesota trade AP and their #1 for Dez now?

Dez and AP are not mutually exclusive here. If Dallas wants AP, they will get him and dangling Dez out there is not needed.

I do fear that Dez will be tagged twice then run off elsewhere, he is my favorite player aside from Romo :(

Cooper and White are expected to be drafted in the top 7. If a team was going to give up a 1st, it wouldn't be a team with at top 10 pick.

So your idea boils down to "what if another team wanted to made a dumb trade and way overpay in draft picks for a veteran player". Obviously, you have to consider it anytime another team wants to drastically over-compensate you, but that seems unlikely to happen.

If they somehow could get a Cooper or White for Dez, then yes I would be worth considering. You get them for 4 year on a rookie contract with a 5th year option. The difference between their salary and Dez on the Franchise Tag would get you a lot in free agency. The problem is the extra money would not help this year as FA is already over and Romo has a limited amount of time to wait on a young WR to learn the details of playing in the NFL and the details of the Cowboys scheme.

The better option would be to draft a WR in the 1st this year and then Franchise and Trade Dez next year if you were confident in the new player being able to take over. If OBJ had fallen to the Cowboys pick last year, they could have taken him and could have moved on from Dez this year or next.

Summary: Teams with a top 10 pick are unlikely to give it up. Teams that are picking later in the 1st are usually good teams and those teams generally don't do dumb trades where they have to both give up picks and a huge amount of cap space for the same player.

trade him? nah just franchise him till you can't franchise him and then cut bait. his personal life is a ticking time bomb. better to let that explode on someone elses dime. sorry, dez worshipers... truth hurts don't it.

I think Dez stays long term. Sure hope so.

But people sometimes get to too emotional about even the consideration of getting great value for Dez through a trade vs maybe getting nothing if he walks next year.

There were a few discussions on the radio in Dallas yesterday about it. Some who know Dez pretty well and know his long term baby sitter type relationship with Wells and Cowboys are worried about Roc Nation in New York being able to deal with stuff here.
It's not an accusation, but there is uncertainty and some think, risk.

In the end though, I see Dez as a long term Cowboy

Btw, those who think Dallas is a "running team" now are very short sighted.
Ideally, we are both.
And even in the maximum run game scenario last year, we had 37 TDs through the air.
I guarantee, barring injury, we throw at a more balanced rate this year.

That would be one of the worst trades i've seen Jerry do since the Roy Williams trade. You'd trade a suspect 1st round pick for a 30 year old running back? For Dez at that?

dez has just been handled well. without his long time mentor, that he just lost, he is a ticking time bomb.

Again though, what has he shown in the past year to say that his life is a ticking tomb bomb?

I am a dez fan as much as anybody but not sure you are correct. If that was the case how come they haven't signed him long term to make him happy and make sure he isn't going to get mad at the tag option and ruin the relationship.

WHAT IF...

Minnesota offered Adrian Peterson, the 11th pick, and Harrison Smith for Dez Bryant and the 27th pick.

For the record, I pretty much hate any scenario that includes trading Dez. For purposes of this WHAT IF, I'll go with the idea that Dallas has concluded Dez will never sign a long-term deal to stay.
