Hypothetical: What if Jerry nabs Cowher and Cowher is bringing Chan Gailey with him?

Another one of those hypothetical scenarios, but I thought it would be interesting to get some opinions. This came to me while hearing Irvin, Newton, and Kiley hash things out towards the end of their show this afternoon and the case being made that a guy like Cowher is what this team needs going forward to right itself and finally play to is potential.

So let's say Jerry makes the pitch for Cowher in about a month, and Gailey is out with the rest of Herm's staff in KC once they hire a new GM (looking more and more like the new guy will clean house over there). Cowher, who seems to love Gailey from their days in Pittsburgh and personally endorsed him for both the job here 10 years ago and when Chan was on the Steelers short list before the '07 season, says that he's bringing him along as his offensive coordinator.

Does Jerry agree to it? Would we see the running game greatly improved and all 3 backs given a solid number of carries next year? It would likely lead to a very prominent role for Choice in particular, given Chan's familiarity with him from college.

Discuss.

Nothing wrong with Gailey... If that's who the head coach wants, that's who the hire should be.

I wish we could get some kind of indication on if Cowher is realistic at all, though. Like WG has said, he's made some negative comments about Jerry on TV. I know I get the feeling he wouldn't want Jerry's shadow over the team all the time the way it has been forever now.

Thanks for your feedback CL. I wonder if Cowher's comments about Jones are of the same ilk as Parcells's infamous "I could never work for a guy like that" comment a few years before landing here.

I doubt Gailey would want to come back to Dallas.

Every time a big name is available, even if there's no source leading him to Dallas at all, he automatically becomes a front runner.

They said it about Moss last year even tho nobody in their right mind believed him and Owens could be teammates.

They're saying it now about Cowher even tho he's only going to go to a franchise where he has control which he had in Pittsburgh and no one in their right mind believes Jerry will give it to him like he did Parcells.

Do you want Jay Ratliff 2 gapping?

Do you want DeMarcus Ware staying in the same place?

Do you want zones getting torched?

Do you want Bradie James playing passive and in coverage too much?

No thanks.

If we miss the playoffs you might see Jerry do something like that.

I just think Jerry's convinced himself if it doesnt work with Parcells, it wont work at all. Which I disagree with cause Cowher has actually won a SB while Parcells was in Dallas doing nothing with this team in January. I can just see it in Jerry's tone and choice of words, his ego hasnt gone anywhere. He just had to take shots at Parcells and Jimmy with it not being warranted.

Even I question if Cowher can win with these players cause he's such a motivator and "Hoo-ra" type guy and so many of these players laugh at that concept.

I wouldn't care.

For once, I'd like to see Jerry hire a head coach then step out of the way, and let the HC hire his ENTIRE staff.

No in-place coaches, i.e. Garrett, hired by Jerry and waiting for the new HC.

Hopefully the feeling is mutual. He stunk here and after his first 3/4 of a season, the offense was pretty much a joke. I've never seen a coach that ignored the entire middle of the field the way his passing scheme did. Almost every pass was designed to go outside, and there was very little intermediate to deep stuff.

Does a pretty good job coaching the run game wherever he goes, but his passing offense blows.

You mean like Parcells?

How many playoff games did he win again?

Actually there's alot wrong with Gailey, and I wouldnt want anything to do with him again. Ga Tech fans are dancing in the streets that he's gone.

And I still think Cowher would be a potential carbon copy of what we got with Parcells here. A guy who only came back for the money and didnt have the same desire or skill he once had. And in Cowher's case, he never had much skill to begin with. IMO he's one ofthe most overrated coaches of the last 20 years. Always had alot of talent, always lost alot of home playoff games, got one fluke championship when officials completely hosed the other team (that totally outplayed them).

No system's perfect (heck, it's arguable that the worst coaches [Stewart, Read] on THIS staff were Wade's hires), but at least it gives the coach the autonomy that he needs to put his plan in motion.

It allows the HC to make sure that his staff always has his back and it's working toward a common and, hopefully, unified goal, and it's a great signal to the players that there's one sheriff in town.

I don't think there's a more overrated coach in the NFL than Bill Cowher.

He obviously was fine with the Garrett thing, and Jones had a limited window to make a move on him.

If he was so against Garrett as his OC, he could have simply turned the job down. He would have been HC in San Diego within a few weeks afterward.
