Here Parnell gets beat bad. Free is on his man at the LOS. Romo steps up into the pocket and then goes down to avoid taking a hit.
Free's job is to keep his man out of the pocket so Romo can step up.....the sack definitely was partially his fault but it wasn't a terrible play. If Romo had stepped up to the right he might have been fine.
I love how people rush to judgement and flip flop so quickly. Free was decent, not great, not terrible. I don't think there are any absolutes though....no way to say this early that he can be above average.
I have said over the course of the training camp and how things have worked out that we have three definite starters in Smith, Free and Frederick. It's just a matter of finding two more starters. Leary could be one, he looked good when he was out there. As for the last one, you have to decide who is better, Bernadea, Arkin or Parnell.
Broaddus is talking Bernadeau up but he sure looked ho hum to me. When starters for both teams were in we really had no success running to the left. When Tanner gained yards in the first half it was to the right. He was also having to make a guy miss in the backfield on most plays.
Parnell was meh as well. Not awful, but not really anything ever more than average.
