Cowher? Are you kidding?

He is hands down the best coach for the job. Out of all the names dropped. I would take Cowher in a second.

I would as well as long as we did not have to give up draft picks to get him. Right now even though he is retired he is still under contract to Pitt.

Good point. I read that it would involve draft picks to get him this year. Not next?

I certainly would not drop picks to get the man.

The only one I might would be Bill Belichick.

My take on Cowher is this....

He would be able to instill a no-nonsense attitude in the organization but OVERALL I dont think he can take us where we want to go.

I like the former... just not convinced that he can convince me that I am wrong in the latter.

His lone SB victory is tainted. The ref's only threw flags when Seattle did something... NEVER against the Steelers... the fact that the game was not fairly officiated angered me as a fan of the game.

He lost 4 or 5 AFC title games. Most at home.

Next year yes but I would hope that who ever is hired gets a real chance at the job and not some token coach for 1 season.

Why thank you Hos. You do care. :D

Seriously. I wish there was some way to get Cowher.

Giving up draft choices is not an option tho.

Rooney is a fair man Jerry. Throw him some millions for a 60 yard long JumboTron to hang from his ceiling.

I bet we could get him then. :D

I still think Cowher is overrated...yeah he's been to two Super Bowls and getting to last one by winning 3 road games is impressive, but he doesnt deserve the win he got (terribly officiated game) and he has a number of home field playoff losses to his credit...then there's the whole Kordell thing, and the way that went down tells me maybe Cowher doesnt have as much sense as people want to believe

just three years ago Steelers fans thought this guy was the biggest knucklehead ever...

The timing more than anything makes me mad at Parcells. It basically precludes us from getting Cowher without paying an exhorbitant price.

He accomplished the things he did with an owner who did not try and keep good Free Agents from leaving or to sign other Free Agents to plug holes. He also wouldn't pay Cowher like a top coach. He won anyway.

That impresses me.

He's under contract with Pittsburgh through 2007, yes we would have to most likely.

No sir. Never forget a contract is binding until released or fulfilled.

Other coaches did MORE with less.... he did less with less or less with more... however you want to look at it... he lost alot of playoff games...

He would have been 2-6 in AFC title games(something like that) and 0-2 in SB's if it was officiated fairly.

Don't just throw cap at the wall. Cite an example.

you are exactly right, OUT OF THE NAMES DROPPED. No he is not the best coach for the job, he is a good coach but nothing more. There are coaches that just turn franchises around, Belichick and Payton (so far so good). The have the same or less players from years and do something with the team, i.e. conference championship game.

Belichick lost Law, McGinnest, Branch and still got the team there. Payton did a marvelous job, and that is what drives me nuts, that we could have had him.
