I believe we can fix this offense

even if we keep Garrett by doing the following:

We have a mammoth OL. Our OL is built more for a power running game than a finesse passing game. Since they have long term contracts, we cannot change our OL philosophy anytime soon.

1. Commit to the run, early and often (at least 35-40 rushes a game). Use the run to set up the pass. Ram the ball down their throats. Mix it up with Barber and Choice for about 30-40 minutes. Then once the defense has been worn down, bring in a fresh, fast Felix Jones as our HR threat. I also want to get Lorenzo Neal as our FB. Anderson is not nearly the lead blocker that Neal is. If we are going to have that punch you in the mouth running game, Neal is the perfect FB.

2. Once the run is established, use the play action passing game to keep the defense honest. Run lots of short and intermediate slants and crossing routes.

3. A lot of teams like to blitz us relentlessly. This is where we use misdirection plays (reverses, counters, etc.) and screen passes.

4. I would like to see us use the 3 back set and even direct snap to Felix and allow the other two to block for him or have him pass out of the formation.....in a variation to the Wild Cat. This can be run about 2-4 times a game, just to keep the defense guessing.

5. In the red zone, utilize Bennett instead of Roy on the fade routes. Bennett is taller and has a better vertical.

we had some of the most poorly designed run plays in the league this year do you really think Garrett can come up with an effective way to run the ball?

"We" the fans can't do a damn thing but sit & hope that plans like this get implemented.

Why does it seem like the OL is horrible at drive-blocking? I've seem Barber and Choice get stuffed way too much on 3rd and 1 plays.

Good luck with that. We're talking Garrett here. What has he shown from last year to this year that makes you think he is capable of shoring all of that up? Aside from what I have seen with my eyes, some of the stats posted on this board actually suggest he has regressed.

From what I could gather at Wade's end of season PC, he pretty much admitted that we need an identity on offense and needed to run the ball with our 3-headed attack.

That Romo "needed to be reined in". (His exact words, I think.)

Wade also mentioned our massive turnover ratio during the season. And that a running game would help us improve in that department.

I do think that next season we will run the ball more with a hopefully healthy Barber and F Jones, along with Choice.

I agree this is the direction we should go. We have two very good run blocking TEs already.

I also think we need to get another FB who is more of a specialist in the run blocking dept, and who can hopefully catch a few balls out of the backfield as well.

Excellent post. We definitely need to keep our stable of RBs in place and draft a nasty nail eating FB to open holes for them. The only thing that might keep me from ralphing on a weekly basis is a huge dose of successful, well designed run plays taking full advantage of our three headed monster.

This is why Shanahan should come to Dallas.

I'd want Shanahan to come to Dallas as well, except he'd have to let his OC run a different running blocking scheme than he's used to.

Given that we've now given long-term contracts to L Davis, Colombo, and Flo, they aren't going away soon.

That said, this shouldn't be the end of the world for Shanahan. But it appears that JJ is keeping Wade around for another year . . . .

I feel this way as well.

I've been saying well before the bye this season, that we need to replace Wade at the end of the season.

I think JJ is making a mistake keeping Wade, but hey, as a fan, what can you do? Only cross your fingers and hope for the best.

None of it is possible without executing the plays as they were designed. You can blame Garrett and Romo all you want, but the main problem in this offense is lack of execution. Poor practice habits by the team shows up on game day.

Garrett can design a million plays, but if this lazy, undisciplined team can't execute, it is worthless. The great Cowboy teams of the 90's ran handful of plays, but executed them perfectly and the other team could do nothing about it.

Mammoth Oline - that is an illusion, they eat food and salaries but are an average set of blockers and perform average to below average.

I was gonna post something to that effect. Since Emmitt, it seems our running backs had to work exra hard for fewer yards, I know differences in talent is obvious, but the holes are just not there when needed.

RUN the ball at least 30 times a game should be a staple. That allows you to throw it 30 usually which is about the maximum you want to throw.
