I can only pray that Jerry Jones would come out and say this

Cuban said. "The ball won't always bounce the way we want it to, but every player can control their level of effort. I don't care what their contract is. I would rather turn over the roster 100 percent than subject fans to another game like last night."

Can i get a group prayer here?

Why should he say that? Its would be an obvious lie since the salary cap does not allow you to turn the roster over like that

sure it does.

u can make trades and get unlimited numbers of 2nd round picks if you so choose. not hard to cut guys so long as you are willing to keep paying them.

the team would be gawd awful but then so was that OKC team that beat them minus both durant and green.

But at least, he would acknowledge the fact that the players on the team, needs to either step and put in the effort for 60 mins, or find another team.

I think it would be a littler harder in the NFL for a statement like that to really scare the majority of a team. I mean does basketball have an actual salary cap structure that would prevent Cuban from following through with this claim if he wanted to?

The NFL does. If you cut our entire roster you're right you'd suck. You'd suck more than the Lions did this last year cause you'd have to field your teams by passing out tryout fliers in the local malls.

I can't see people making big money like Roy Williams (WR), or Owens, or Romo, or DWare (when he gets his) or Hamlin really worrying that Jerry might actually follow through with such a claim. That's the only way it can really change the whole attitude is if there is any real shot to that consequence being real.

Otherwise it's just words and hot air.

The nba does have a soft cap. They can exceed it but they have to pay a tax on the overage. I believe it's twice the amount. If an owner is willing to pay it they can exceed the cap.

The only thing I like about their cap is the rookie cap.

So when will the Mavericks have 12 new players?

If they don't get 12 new players soon then what you essentially want is for Jerry Jones to talk out of his *** like Cuban just did.

Obviously, Cuban did not mean he was going to cut every player. He was using hyperbole to make his point that that he will shake up the roster any way he can if a certain level of performance/effort persists.

He's not "talking out of his ***".

Cuban was just acting irrationally to a disappointing loss to a pos team.

Sure he is. Name 1 player, never mind 12, who is going to be let go for the effort they didn't put up that night. Which player is he releasing? I'm dying to know.

If you believe for one minute that empty words by Jerry Jones will equal results on the football field then I want to talk to you about some ocean front property I own here in Arizona. Get your checkbook ready because it is going to be a sweet deal.

I don't think this has anything to do with Jerry Jones either, I'm just defending Cuban in his situation.

And on that note, no he's not going to cut a single player because of the effort put forth that night. He even said that he keeps telling himself "it's one game." However, I do believe that the Jason Kidd trade was a pretty mistake, and that team needs to be shaken up a bit. And I think he realizes that now. You've got a small time frame left to make use of the years when Dirk Nowitski is in his prime, and this current team is not going to get the job done.

He wait way too long to get rid of Avery Johnson. Hopefully he won't make the mistake now.

Ah, so I should ignore the TITLE of the thread completely and not let it have any relevance to the point.

This thread is not about the Mavericks and how they acquired players and if those players are actually any good.

This is about the hope that Jerry Jones would say something similar to this.

Forgive me, I would prefer Jerry not just flap his gums like Cuban clearly is. I would prefer Jerry not talk out of his *** like Cuban clearly is.

Point of fact, no one about whom Mark Cuban is currently talking in that quote is going to be cut. It doesn't matter what their effort was in that game. No one is going to lose their job over it.

Having Jerry say something equally hollow is what we're "praying" for?

No thanks, I am not interested in idle blather.

Its dollar for dollar, not twice the amount.

Also... any luxury taxes collected, get redistributed amongst the teams not paying the luxury tax.

I'm sorry if I misrepresented the intent of my original post. I only took exception to the point of Cuban making an empty statement (and not the "Jerry shouldn't do this" bit-- two very different situations). I think Cuban's statement was very meaningful.

But yea, you're right... this is not a thread to discuss the current state of the Mavs so I'll just leave it at that.

(Ok, fine just one last thing... I think in a better economy Cuban would have ponied up the cash to trade for a Richard Jefferson type, who was available for pennies on the dollar in terms of trade value. I think he regrets that he wasn't able to do so, and is seriously contemplating unloading a few players this offseason via trades, economy permitting-- he can't afford to sink more into luxury tax area and no one else is willing to pick up salary right now. Ok, now I'm done. Promise.)

It is an empty statement though.

UNLESS...someone gets cut for the effort they do not give. Otherwise all he did was stand there and ***** into a microphone. That's what will save the Cowboys? For Jerry to stand there making similar idle threats?

I find that very idea to be senseless.

Say what you want about Mark Cuban, but I like the way he calls people out.

Apparently the point is to talk tough. It creates Championship caliber teams.

Let us pray that Jerry that eh will change 100% of the entire roster. It will make all the difference in the world.
