Is it just me or does it seem like the past years, the cowboys at times have seasons where the offense is doing good but the defense is not right, and then as the defense finds a rhythm, the offense goes into a slump?

We can also vic versa this thing where seasons the defense was great out of the gate and the offense was slow to gain traction, only for the offense to pick up and the defense slows down or gets exposed as the season goes.

The offense has been showing signs of slowing down right around the time the cowboy are getting these player(s) back on defense. I wouldn't be surprised if the offense continued to slow while the defense picked up a little.

What gives? Why does it always have to be one without the other? Why cant the cowboys ever be an all around fully balanced team?

It's a trend I really cant stand

I understand what you feeling. Same with me.

But thats just the same with every medicore or bad team. Ups and downs throughout the season.

Part of it is the strength of the oposition. Our offense usually looks better against weak defenses but falters against the better ones.

Well, you can thank Jerra Jones for building the team that way.

We stopped running the football, it’s hard when you’re behind, all the time and the defense is on the field forever, your offense doesn’t get to perform or even loosen up lol
You have to understand what’s really happening out there before you can get discussed about it. Fixing the defense will fix the offense.

There is a huge, clearly meaningful trend that has occurred in the NFL for the last 30 seasons: The winning owners of the last 30 Super Bowls all hired someone besides themselves to be their team’s GM.

In fact, among all NFL owners, there is only one owner who has not noticed nor respected this trend.

That’s the entire league, but we could win those tighter games if we had defense. The scores are getting lower as the season goes on for everybody.

Although I agree with you, I don’t think that’s what’s happening here in his explanation of how he’s feeling

The defense hasn't been great this century.
The '85 Bears could score 3 points and have a chance to win. If they score 7, it felt like game over. That was a great defense.

Edit: Back then, defenders could hit QB's and receivers.

It goes against the laws of the universe.
Dumb and dumber, multiply two negatives and the universe says you get a positive, but not for Dallas we are cursed.

I know the last hundred years have been pretty hard

I think a lot of it has to do with Jerry’s refusal (or inability) to hire to top coaching. He tries to collect his star player types and figures they can win that way (think of the 500 coach thing)….then no one can take his precious credit he is after.

Honestly, if you take a look at some of the players that have been through here over the last 20 years, yet none of them got anywhere close to an NFC CG…..it’s along the lines of inadequate coaching.

Jerry wants to do it all…..including be the walk around HC.

I’m not sure what this has to do with the offense seeming to slow down, has the defense gets better,

I don’t know I haven’t seen him on the field since the Jimmy Johnson days. When they would walk the field together before the games.

This isn’t a Cowboys thing this is a NFL thing. What good teams do though is find their footing at the right time. Look at Philly…..offensively they stink. But I don’t think they will stink when it’s time to enter the playoffs.

Been saying this for years. The FO is reactive. The Oline sucks spend a bunch of #1’s on the Oline. The defense sucks spend a whole draft on DB’s. Ect. That’s why next year every draft pick should not be on defense.

It’s hard to be a balanced, playoff caliber team when you don’t use all your available resources to acquire new talent.

We basically rely on the draft and fill holes with lower cost long-shots and reclamation projects. We don’t draft or evaluate good enough to rely on that strategy.

Jerry’s best bet is to investigate the genealogy of Nostradamus to find someone to run the draft room because we can’t afford any misses.
