I cringe everytime I see Wilcox and Church together on the field

I thought Wilcox was being relegated to the bench? I saw him on the field a LOT yesterday.

Having Wilcox AND Church together on defense at the same time puts the team at such a liability against the pass.

Help me understand why Wilcox was out there so much? Is he the 3rd safety in the dime?

Someone pointed out that Jones was on the sidelines more than expected as well. Why?

I very rarely noticed Jones yesterday. His final stat line was 1 tackle.

Was it possible he was hurt?

No idea. He also made a play on Donnell (I think it was him) on a big 3rd down in the 2nd half. Had good coverage. But other than that, I didn't notice him much either.

I only noticed Wilcox one time. On Shepard's TD catch. Brown had his hand between Shepard's and the ball. Wilcox knocked Brown down.

It's definitely one of, if not the, worst safety duos in the entire NFL.

Neither one of them can cover, and with Hitchens at MLB it's pitch and catch.

Is Byron injured? That's really the only way I can imagine putting Wilcox on the field is acceptable. I'm still in amazement that the competition at safety is so low that he's actually considered depth.

Any of the Giants 7 safeties from camp would have been an upgrade over JJ.

Jones sat the whole drive before the half that the giants scored on.

After an entire summer and offseason of telling everyone how good jones was he gets rotated week 1.

He was caught by me also making a very sound tackle, with some pop.

He had that big hit on the late draw play that saved a first down.

But yeah, I am not sure why he's playing as much as he played. He's a total liability against the pass.

For all the hate Wilcox is getting for that game. It was Jones and Scandrick that got burnt on the one deep play from Eli "throw deep bombs all day with eyes closed" Manning. He was also the only defender to make contact with Jennings? on that run on 3rd & 13 that Jennings was about to convert to a 1st before Wilcox sent him straight backwards to make them punt. Yeah he popped our own player on that TD, but that corner should have had more ball awareness in the first place.

He stinks. Deal with it.

Jones may end up being a poor player too, but Wilcox clearly is one already.

And that's the danger when you keep a guy like him on the roster. You know, a poorly playing veteran. Because coaches like Marinelli tend to want to gravitate towards guys they are familiar with even when their butts should be on the bench. If I recall, Wilcox is a guy that Marinelli apparently likes a lot.

It's the same thinking that has Nick Hayden playing the lions share of snaps at the 1 tech for a few years.

The safety play yesterday was generally bad. Jones missed on some coverages(the TD was one) and Wilcox was also out of position. I have no idea why Wilcox was in so much, as someone mentioned, he might be the dime safety with Jones moving to a slot role?

Seems like they called a ton of Cover 1 or 3 which left the corners manned up alone a lot and that means the single high safety is going have a hard time getting over on the go routes (which is what happened).

All I see is people talking crap about Wilcox. He had been bad but he played a very good game yesterday. Even made the game saving tackle. I get when he misses up but he played well and I give him props.

Only play I think he missed up was the Shepard TD when he ran into Brown. Wilcox was good in coverage and at least got over on the TD unlike Jones on the Odell 50 yarder.

I guess you blinked, because you didn't see Wilcox make a game-saving stop in the closing seconds as the Giants ran on 3rd & 12. JJ stopped the ballcarrier in his tracks after 11 yards. That was a potential game saver.

Hey man I am just frustrated that I haven't seen a Cowboys safety make a splash play in like a decade.
