I don't necessarily pay too much attention to simulations...

'Skins shock Cowboys with late surge

By Jon Robinson
Archive
Heading into the fourth quarter, Dallas is cruising with a 20-13 lead against their division rivals from D.C., but that's when the unthinkable happens and the Commanders offense explodes for 17 fourth-quarter points to steal the game, 30-23.
That's right, we used "Commanders" and "offense explodes" in the same sentence thanks to the awesome running of Betts (96 yards, one touchdown) and the game-winning catch by Santana Moss.
The loss is Dallas' second in a row as they now fall to 6-4 on the season after watching their defense give up 17 points in a quarter to one of the lowest scoring teams in the NFL.

----

Let's be honest, I wouldn't be shocked if this happened. We are definitely guilty of playing down to opponents.

Let's face this fact, the 2ndary doesn't have the kind of quality depth that the Dline/LBs have, so they don't have the luxury of being able to rotate guys in and out.

Something we've seen is the defense, 2ndary in particular, give up 4th QTR drives that either lose the game or make it closer than it should be:

vs NYG: set up the game winning FG
vs DEN: big game winner to Brandon Marshall late in 4th
vs KC: late TD to Bowe sends game into OT
vs PHI: PHI opts for FG w/ 4:30 left (saved by PHI coaching decision there)
vs GB: Long 8:36 TD drive end of 3rd start of 4th QTR puts GB up 10-0; Rodgers 8/10 60yds (essentially the game winner as it turned out)

So frankly...this simulation is plausible considering how the Dallas defense (especially the 2ndary) has played at times this season.

I too have a bad feeling about this game

they blew Denver up with a patchwork line

but of course the Denver D is smallish, but still

Nothing surprises me about this team anymore. Too many dummies to expect a sure thing in any area, but we really should win this game.

Last week I watched the 1-6 Rams take the 7-0 Saints down to the wire almost pulling off the win. I don't take any games for granted.

Neither one of these next two games are going to be a walk in the park.

Disregarding the notion that "anything can happen" when these two teams play, who in the world programmed that simulation with the probability that the 'Skins offense is explosive and what percentage did they use?

You never know how any game will go. Freak plays happen and of course mistake can be made.

I think if the Cowboys go out and play as they have shown they are capable of then I like our chances vs any team out there but by the same token when we play sloppy and making mistakes we can get beat.

I'm one who feels most games every sunday are won and lost on a small handful of plays within a game even when it is bad teams vs good teams.

If Dallas has more than 10 penalties and more than 2 turnovers this week they could very well lose this game from a couple of "weird and wacky" plays. The series history is full of weird and wacky when it comes to Dallas vs. Washington.

I agree 100%.

Austin makes that catch, Roy doesn't fumble, Romo doesn't overthrow a wide open Bennett and that's a whole different ball game.

unless Peyton Manning trots onto the field wearing a Commander jersey we won't be giving up a 17 point 4th quarter lead to them.

I knew this was rubbish when I saw that Felix Jones had ten carries. In a game.

I ran a sim on Madden 10 where the Browns and Rams played in the super bowl.

Just sayin...

Why a single Madden simulation when you can have 10,000 simulations?

AccuScore says....

The Cowboys offense took a week off vs Green Bay but they should be much better this week. There is a 62 percent chance that Dallas has at least 350 offensive yards and Dallas has an 83 percent chance of winning if the offense performs as expected. If Washington holds Dallas to under 80 rushing yards the Commanders are just 42 percent underdogs. If Washington can rush for 80+ yards while holding the Cowboys to under 80 Washington is actually the 65 percent favorite. Both QBs are averaging under 1 INT per simulation and there are not expected to be many turnovers in the game. If Dallas commits no more than 1 turnover and Tony Romo has no interceptions the Cowboys are heavy 89 percent favorites. AccuScore has powered more than 10,000 simulations for every NFL game for ESPN.com, each simulated one play at a time and minimum of 10,000 times. For more, visit AccuScore.

this is something i've wondered about for a few weeks because we don't have this kind of thing in the run up to games over here. please tell me this is something more complex and insightful than just running a cpu v cpu game on madden or something similar and relating the outcome as newsworthy?

I don't see that simulation happening, unfortunately.

Washington's still a bad, bad team and last week's win is sort of overshadowing it. I don't see Washington winning this game. :(
