I know there have been a couple of threads bashing the idea of taking a WR in the 1st round, but I feel this is proof that there is no need for us to draft a WR in the 1st. Below is the breakdown of all 12 of this years playoff teams and their top 3 recivers. Next to the recievers names are the rounds they were drafted in. And of all 36 possible WR's only 6 were drafted in the 1st round. And of those 6, three were taken in the top ten of the 1st round. That means only 3 WR's playing for successful franchises in the NFL were taken in the area we are drafting this year. To me this is a HUGE red flag. And Ill go even further still. Of those 6 1st rounders only 3 are still playing on the team they were drafted by. If this does not prove that successful NFL franchises build their WR's through the later draft rounds and FA then i dont know what will.

Patriots Top 3 recievers-
R. Caldwell - 2nd round
T. Borwn- 8th Round
C. Jackson- 2nd round

Jets Top 3 recievers-
L. Coles- 3rd Round
J. Cotchery- 4th Round
J. McCareins- 4th Round

Colts Top 3 Recievers-
M. Harrison- 1st Round(9th)
R. Wayne- 1st Round(30th)
B. Stokely- 4th Round

Chiefs Top 3 recievers-
Eddie Kennison- 1st Round(18th)
Sammie Parker- 4th Round
Dante Hall- 4th Round

Chargers Top 3 recievers-
K. McCardell- 12th Round?
E. Parker- undrafted
V. Jackson- 2nd round

Ravens Top 3 Recievers-
M. Clayton Round 1(22)
D. Mason- 4th Round
D. Williams- 4th Roudn

Seahawks Top 3 recievers-
Deon Branch- 3rd Round
Darrell Jackson- 3rd Round
D.J. Hackett- 5th Round

Cowboys Top 3 recievers-
T.O.- 3rd Round
T. Glenn- 1st Round(7th)
P. Crayton- 7th Rond

Eagles Top 3 recievers-
Reggie Brown- 2nd Round
Greg Lewis- undrafted
Hank Baskett- undrafted

Saints Top 3 recievers-
M. Colston- 7th Round
J. Horn- 5th Round
D. Henderson- 2nd Round

Giants Top 3 recievers-
P. Burress- 1st Round(8th)
A. Toomer- 2nd Round
T. Carter- 2nd Round

Bears Top 3 recievers-
B. Berrian- 3rd Round
M. Muhammad-2nd Round
R. Davis- undrafted

good point.1 st round doesn't guarantee anything. Some players are good because of their qb's,etc. Besides college play is a different ball game than the NFL

I appreciate the efforts of everyone trying to find some kind of pattern in the draft.

The simple fact remains.....The draft is not a science.

It's an art.

You can probably show starters from every position, from every team, and not find a pattern.

Players can be found everywhere in the draft.....and outside the draft.

That is the only constant.

Since there are no tendencies....no patterns...you simply draft the best available player, grit your teeth, and hope your guy pans out while the other teams picks flame out.

If a WR is the best player available, you take him....

And at least 3 of those teams (Eagles, Pats & Chargers) would have been better served had they had a quality receiver on their team.

Look..the numbers tell the truth.

Our Passing Offense was ranked # 5 in the NFL in 2006.

Our Passing DEFENSE was ranked # 24.

It's not "rocket science"...

We need to draft a CB in the 1st round and then the healing can begin...

No.

But the Colts did, the Bucs did, the Rams did, etc.

They also didn't win with a first round QB starting, but that doesn't mean that you should never draft a QB in the first.

and since the Colt's won w/ a 3-4 D, everyone should switch to it

Detroit sucks as a team and the WRs except for Roy Williams, who they spent a 1st on, suck too

1st round WRs aren't key to winning a Super Bowl, but it doesn't hurt to have them when you are pretty good across the board

Despite your earnest effort the best corp on that list was Indy which was headed up by a pair of first rounders, as for New Orleans I believe they recently parted ways with Joe Horn.

Dallas has a nice collection from every aspect of player acquisition and obtained their talent through every conceivable venue be it draft, trade or free agency.

If not for the age and recent surgery of Owens along with the injury history of Glenn I would rank Dallas as the finest wideout corp in the modern league and it would not be the ranting of a homer.

I am in full favor of drafting the best wideout available come round one or two.

How bout this for logic - the colts won a superbowl without a first round pick at Corner Back. Therefore, you shouldn't draft a CB in the first.

So what? A lot of teams have first round pass rushers that haven't won a superbowl. Terrell Suggs is a terror. No superbowl for him thus far. How about Javon Kearse? Nope, no SB for you. Logic > this thread.
