Today was homecoming for the University of Arizona. The opponent was the UCLA Bruins. College tailgates are so much fun. I've been going non stop since about 9:30 this morning. We must have walked 4 miles going all around the campus to every section. I've been treated to bratwursts, beef ribs, BBQ chicken (oh man was that one good), and carne asada with beans and tortillas. I didn't pay for anything (yes I offered) and I was so stuffed I didn't buy anything during the game. I just yelled. A lot.

The game just ended 15 minutes ago. I will be hoarse for days. I sound like I've been drinking sandpaper.

Final score 34-27. Arizona Wildcats baby!!!

Okay, a scouting report from the game. You all know that I love Antoine Cason the CB for UA. He is so fluid it's amazing. On one Punt Return he slipped what must have been 5 tackles and never moved more than about 4 yards total to do it. The guy can make people miss by moving 6 inches. It is amazing.

Heart and soul of the Wildcats is LB Spencer Larson. I love watching this kid play. He is so solid. Wraps up on every tackle and just makes huge plays.

The kicker who replaced Folk has been solid all year. Was again today. UA May have the best Punter in the nation right now. I don't care about either of them though. Just had the thought in my head and wanted to share it.

The kid I am going to be excited to watch for a long time is Freshman TE, Ron Gronkowski. He's from somewhere in New York and this kid is a bull. He's 6'6" about 250 pounds and at 18 years old already benches 315 pounds, and no one tackler seems to be able to bring this kid down. He caught a ball 3 yards shy of the 1st down, 5 guys piled on and when they spotted the ball it was 2 yards beyond the 1st down marker. Unreal power and hands in such a young kid. He had 6 catches for about 100 yards and a TD today. Runs sharp routes. I really like this kid. All season long he has impressed.

I had such a fun time. Not happy with this season, but I am happy today. Nothing like the college football atmosphere. I wish pro games were even half as rowdy as college crowds. Too much fun.

I need to drink something to soothe my aching throat. Hot dang today was fun.

Glad you had fun, Hos.

I haven't been to a college football game since I was playing at Midwestern. I miss it.

You know rack, my idea of the perfect weekend would be to go to The Red River Shootout on a Saturday and the Cowboys on Sunday.

When I was playing the most intimidating place to play was Hawaii. Not only were there a ton of distractions (read girls), you had jet lag like crazy, and then that stadium shakes with people chanting. It was unreal. Wyoming fans are flat out nuts about their Cowboys.

I got to go to an Auburn vs. Alabama game one year and saw Bo Jackson live. to this day I believe I watched a demi-god that day. He was a man among boys. One day I have got to make it to Ohio State vs. Michigan, and I definitely want to go see a game at LSU and at Florida would be fun too.

I am watching Oregon kill Arizona State and falling in love with Jonathon Stewart as a possible replacement for Julius if we can't have McFadden.

Saturdays are so much fun. If the Cowboys lose I am not fun to be around. On Saturdays when it is college ball it is impossible not to have fun.

Lee Corso is my idol.

I've done this very thing about 3 or 4 times, and you're right... it's pretty much the best "vacation" you could draw up.

Can't beat Fletchers corn dogs at the State Fair!

The next time you come to Tucson I'm going to treat you to Pat's Chili Dogs.

It's not far from the Cat House where we watched MNF. Unreal how good they are.

Hey, that's my dream football weekend, too... get there on Friday, take in the Texas State Fair... always wanted to see Big Tex in person... and on Saturday night, there's this bar in Plano I discovered quite by accident, the Yacht Club... my one visit to Texas Stadium, back in 1992, me and my cousin walked into the Hooters in Irving just minutes before they were closing, and the waitresses invited us to tag along when they went over there... they were having a lingerie fashion show that night, which worked for me and the cuz (LOL), and at some boozy point I'm told one of the Hooters waitresses name of Sherry taught me how to two step... I'm told I was gettin' pretty good at it, but when sobriety hit, I was back to being your average white boy... ;)

But the subject of this thread seems to be college football venues, so keeping to the college theme, I can tell you the rowdiest, most raucous crowd I ever saw was when I went to a Virginia-North Carolina State basketball game at University Hall in Charlottesville, back in the Ralph Sampson era... those folks were just NUTS, and I loved every minute of it... what an atmosphere that was... I find myself wondering if the Cavs' new basketball stadium replicates that atmosphere...

I swear, I'm doing it the next time the games fall on the same weekend.

I have to partially agree on rowdy crowds in basketball, but mine is going to the Pit at the University of New Mexico. It has to hit ear damage levels in that place. I bet ABQCOWBOY can back me up on that one. Those fans are wild. I can only imagine the crowds for Duke vs. North Carolina, but that would be a fun college basketball crowd.

Alas, my Wildcats have got to be the tamest home crowds in NCAA History. The average age of fans in attendance is already dead. The most common giveaways are Depends and wrap around sun glasses. Great teams under Lute Olsen, but the crowd seriously needs more students and fewer geriatric alumni.

Just heard on ESPN that UCLA QB Patrick Cowan spent the night in a local hospital because of a collapsed lung. I thought he just got his bell rung. Had no idea it was that severe.

It's not what you think! :p:

It's the Wildcat House... a college bar near the U of A Wildcat campus.

You perv silverbear!

Funny related story though, Hos. I expensed my meal there since I was on a business trip... you should have seen my secretary's face when I gave her a receipt from the Wildcat House! I don't know if she bought my explanation... she's probably convinced to this day we were at a "gentleman's club." :laugh2:

Come on SB... you don't expect us to believe you picked up some Hooters waitresses, do you?? :D

Classic. Imagine if the receipts didn't have the word wild on it and they went by the local nickname. She'd never believe you.
