Trying to figure out how losses by Atlanta, and Philly clinch us a playoff spot. I understand that we'd be 4 games up with 3 to go on S.F., Stl, and Minn. But we would only be up 3 games on Philly and Atl, with 3 to play. Anyone have any answers on this?

I posted our situation Monday before the MNF game.
Basically we win the next 2 games we clinch a spot.

BEcause The Giants, Panthers, Eagles, and Falcons, all play each other, so if they lose this week, then someone has to lose wich with us having 7 losses, would ensure a playoff spot.

i think

I understand that they each play each other, and I also understand that it we win the next TWO we would be in. But the "official" scenerio for this is that if we win, and philly, atl., sf, stl., and minnesota all lose we can clinch THIS WEEK! I know why the sf, stl, and minnesota losses get us in, but why would the Philly and Atl losses get us in. We still have to play both of them, and they could still tie us in record and hold a very good tie breaker.

We clinch by tie breaker.

Atlanta plays TB this week.
Philly lost to the Bucs.
We beat the Bucs.

That wouldn't make any sense either. The first tiebreaker is head to head, and Philly is already up 1-0 and we still have to play Atl. so the "common games" tiebreaker is unlikely to come into play in this scenario.

Forget Philly and the head to head stuff, as long as we have the better record that doesn't matter.
Start here.....

Philly plays the Skins, Giants, Cowboys, and Falcons.
We play Saints, Falcons, Philly, Lions.
Atlanta plays, Buc, Cowboys, Panthers, Eagles.

Say Philly goes 3-1 losing to the Falcons
Dallas goes 3-1 losing to Philly
And the Falcons go 3-1 losing to the Cowboys

Now your turn....

AFC East

• New England can clinch division title with a win and a N.Y. Jets loss.

• Indianapolis can clinch division title with a win or tie.
• Indianapolis can clinch playoff berth if N.Y. Jets, Kansas City, Denver and Cincinnati all lose.

AFC North

• Baltimore can clinch playoff berth with a win and Cincinnati, N.Y. Jets and Denver all lose and Ravens clinch strength of victory tiebreaker over N.Y. Jets.

1. A win and a Kansas City loss or tie.
Or
2. A tie and a Kansas City loss.

• San Diego can clinch playoff berth with:
1. A win.
Or
2. A tie and a N.Y. Jets loss or tie.
Or
3. A tie and a Cincinnati loss.

NFC North

• Chicago has clinched the division.
• Chicago can clinch first-round bye with:
1. A win and Dallas and Seattle both lose.

The initial reports said that if Dallas beat the Saints and then the Rams, 49ers, Vikings, Falcons and Eagles all lose this weekend that Dallas is in. That would mean Dallas could lose their remaining 3 games and be in the playoffs. That is incorrect. The Falcons and Eagles could still have tiebreakes over Dallas if the Cowboys did go 1-3 the rest of the season.

If all those teams did lose and Dallas beats the Saints, it would certainly help get Dallas closer and possibly in position to clinch a playoff spot when they face Atlanta next Saturday.
