The first year or so as our OC I was not sold on him at all. I thought that he was just another Jason Garrett. I honestly wanted to see him go when Garrett went because I believed that Garrett had rubbed off on him too much.

I was wrong.

I think these first 3 weeks has proven that he is making specific game plans based on the defenses we are facing, instead of of doing the same thing every single week.

When we played Tampa Bay it was clear that without Martin we were not going to be able to run the ball effectively. So, we used the short passing game to act as our run game pretty much and it worked. We moved the ball well and should have won the game.

Against the Chargers we were able to run the ball much more effectively and ride it to victory. Dak did what he had to do, but the run game was the most effective offense weapon for the majority of the game. It was a completely different approach from Week 1.

Against the Eagles it was a more balanced attack, but still leaned more towards to the run game. It worked and we blew the doors of them. They couldn't stop the run, and although I wish we would have ran more, we didn't really need to because we could do what we wanted for the most part.

I don't know if I'm 100% sold on him being the head coach., but I do think if Jerry don't work some magic that we will lose him to somebody. I would like to see Jerry somehow make Kellen like a Josh McDaniels type of coach. Where he is basically the head coach in waiting. I am 100% sold on him as the OC though. I have the upmost confidence that he'll put together new game plans each week that give us the best chance to move the ball against the specific defense we are facing, instead of doing the same things every week like we're used to in the past.

I think it's clear he has a better understanding of today's game & game planning than the fraud Garrett ever did.

My only complaints with him are:
he doesn't always use the defenses aggressiveness against them as much as I'd like. in the first two games don't think he used upfield rush to create screens behind them. need to make them question how hard to go up field.
he does seem to get caught up with plays he likes without regard to the situation sometimes

no, I don't think he's ready to be HC and probably won't be for several years.

Garrett is CLEARLY stuck in the past and refuses to bring his offense into the modern age.

I believe that when the Giants get rid of him it's going to be hard for him to ever get another OC job in the NFL.

My main play calling criticism have been the end-around plays. The offense must sharpen its misdirection attempts for making the defense bite hard so the runner can beat the pursuit.

Selfishly, I am hoping Moore is using them so opposing defensive coordinators will regularly incorporate a counter for the end arounds. Then he can use it to his advantage as a play action pass option.

I still can’t see him as a HC yelling at 30+ yr old players and having a commanding presence in the locker room, it’s so much more than just being good at scheming. but so far he’s shown he belongs as the Cowboys OC at least as much as any of his recent predecessors

I am with you. I am seeing him evolve. He's not just calling plays. There's a method to the madness.

It will be interesting to see how Moore plans on attacking Carolina. Thus far Carolina on defense ranks 1st in run defense and 1st in pass defense and 2nd in points allowed. Also leading the league in sacks with 14. Granted Carolina schedule up to this point has been much softer than what Dallas has faced but none the less the numbers are what they are and Matt Rhule has his team playing good ball

So long as it's Pollard, ..i'm down for the end arounds and jet sweeps.

So long as it's Lamb, that's when it tends to be flawed and go downhill. .
They want to convince themselves that he is an exceptional open field run skills, but he just doesn't have enough initial jet-burst quickness and lateral speed for those kind of plays,

that's a very fair assessment. no first year or second year coach goes through NFL without making mistakes. its the way of NFL...you have to be mentored and learn and I think that's where Moore got the short end of the stick, by being mentored by Garrett. I still see some of the similar Garrett tendencies at times. He is learning. he has learned. he is still growing. I think it would be a disaster for him to get a HC job this fast, as that would be too quick an ascention for him to have a chance to become a good one. Every coach has to take his lumps and there is a lot more for him to learn still but he is making good progress.

Has he improved? yes, he has, but his game management still is a work in progress as he has had mistakes in all three games this year, one perhaps costing us the game against Tampa. sometimes he just tries to out smart himself (a garrett tendency). Overall his offense is pretty good, most often he calls the right route combinations to pressure the defense at all levels and at times he just goes back to his college days and calls route combinations that don't work...I guess he is experimenting a bit.....

I think he is at least 2 years away from being a legitimate top coaching candidate....

this game maybe a measuring stick for both teams. Carolina has played two of the worse offenses in the league, one with a rookie QB and one with 3rd stringer..... Saints were a mess when they played carolina, missing players and coaches.

usually these things end up somewhere in the middle, but I think given they are missing horn, we just may have a little too much fire power for them. I look for schultz to have another good game. I think Cooper is hurt, trying to play through, but he really can't.

As long as this team is successful MM will be the Head Coach as long as he wants.......that's just the way it is. One thing we're overlooking IMO, is Kellen's ability to handle people which is just as important as Xs and Os. I mean let's face it, it's easy to handle 55 grown men when things are going right but what about when **** hits the fan or a few yahoos out of control or a couple hard to coach or manage? Does he have the personality and leadership to deal with these types of players in certain situations? I don't know the answer. He seems like a mild-mannered guy but that's not saying much. Garrett had issues with this, so did Novr Turner, Wade Phillips ........

I hope that Jerry keeps him as the HC in waiting. You can't just let him go. Kellen Moore is a Cowboy and I hope that means something to him.

Sometimes you just run certain plays to keep defense honest. Dallas runs a lot of plays with a man going in motion pre snap and never hands it off but now and then yes I think you want to see if you can get them over pursuing and pinching down on the ends.

Glad to see someone finally admit they were wrong about Kellen Moore. But as big of a fan as I am of him, I have doubts about him being a great head coach. I think being an OC is his forte.
I did not think it was a great idea to have him "learn on the job". That was my biggest issue. Why not have him in some lower but still very involved capacity for a couple or three years?

Coach Gruden predicted he may not be an NFL QB, but would make a fine coach. I had doubts....that is only NATURAL. Untested, unproven, frankly failed NFL QB. But it would appear this year he's putting together a complete and specifically designed offensive game plane for the defense at hand.

And players are executing.

VERY encouraging!

But....make sure he's ready. Don;t just make him HC so you can "hold on to him".

HC is a whole different ballgame than OC, wouldn't you say?

I agree with you. Carolina stats may be completely misleading based on teams they have faced.
