I hope that Jerry keeps him as the HC in waiting. You can't just let him go. Kellen Moore is a Cowboy and I hope that means something to him.
that's the challenge. reportedly he already had interviews (philly?). so the league is recoginizing him as an up and coming coaching talent. I am sure after this year he will get more looks (offensive coaches are usually in higher demand than defensive coaches). so the question is what can Jerry do to keep him if he is serious about him (which I think he maybe). He lost Payton, so he may not want the same thing happen again. Does he let MM walk and promote Moore. does he promise him HC position and say wait until MM leaves. does he throw money at him. its going to be interesting summer, but until then I plan to enjoy the season.

I think he's going to be in high demand. He's the new, young, up and coming "genius". He's the new Sean McVey.

You cannot just allow him to leave without pulling everything out first. Do whatever you have to do keep him around, let him learn, and when he is ready giving him control.

Moore has always been a good OC who has gotten better over time but make no mistake what we saw Monday night was Dak Romo'ing into run plays and just calmly marching the ball down the field.
Then he'd play action and hit them again.

It will be interesting to see once Moore leaves if we let McC call plays or bring someone in. I don't sense the OC in waiting here on staff.

The first year or so as our OC I was not sold on him at all. I thought that he was just another Jason Garrett. I honestly wanted to see him go when Garrett went because I believed that Garrett had rubbed off on him too much.

I was wrong.

I think these first 3 weeks has proven that he is making specific game plans based on the defenses we are facing, instead of of doing the same thing every single week.

When we played Tampa Bay it was clear that without Martin we were not going to be able to run the ball effectively. So, we used the short passing game to act as our run game pretty much and it worked. We moved the ball well and should have won the game.

Against the Chargers we were able to run the ball much more effectively and ride it to victory. Dak did what he had to do, but the run game was the most effective offense weapon for the majority of the game. It was a completely different approach from Week 1.

Against the Eagles it was a more balanced attack, but still leaned more towards to the run game. It worked and we blew the doors of them. They couldn't stop the run, and although I wish we would have ran more, we didn't really need to because we could do what we wanted for the most part.

I don't know if I'm 100% sold on him being the head coach., but I do think if Jerry don't work some magic that we will lose him to somebody. I would like to see Jerry somehow make Kellen like a Josh McDaniels type of coach. Where he is basically the head coach in waiting. I am 100% sold on him as the OC though. I have the upmost confidence that he'll put together new game plans each week that give us the best chance to move the ball against the specific defense we are facing, instead of doing the same things every week like we're used to in the past.
The only problem I have with Moore is his play calling in the Red Zone. He's called at least 2 trick plays so far this year and both failed. Tries to get too cute.

Agreed.

I don't like the cute stuff in the red zone one bit.

What I do like is the creativity that he does. When we brought out an offensive lineman to play FB was just smart and it worked. Jason Garrett would never.

If Kellen is indeed the heir apparent HC in waiting (much like Garrett himself behind Wade Phillips) ..then it’s very likely Jerry could force McCarthy into “ retirement” even if we win the SB this year ..

- Why ? Vermeil won the SB with the Rams, but the engineer of their Greatest Show on Turf offense Mike Martz, was instantly the hot commodity as a HC candidate,
(including Jerry per Micky Spanola Ranch reports) and the Rams were not gonna have that.

- It’s been speculated that Jerry has always wanted that young Sean Payton like offensive minded HC, (such that he envisioned Garrett as such) .. they missed out letting Payton go under Jerry’s nose, (my thinking was even Jerry did not know Payton would be this good) but now they have another shot at that with Kellen right under their nose, and with this offense playing so potent, - and they have groomed into one of the best OC’s in the NFL - in just a very short matter of years.

- The biggest deal is with Dak excelling so well under this offense, and it was with Kellen (and QB coach Brad Mussehemeir) where Dak really took off in vast improvement as a QB.
So do you want Dak to have to learn a totally different offense and re-start at this all over again ?

- If Jerry wants Dak to remain and excel in this offense, then you keep the engineer of this offense on a permanent basis,
then you gamble to make him the next Payton, ..the next Sean McVay.
Thus this offense will always be him .. it never departs to become HC elsewhere regardless of what assistants leave for such HC jobs.

- You basically have had Kellen under your wings, so he’s an insider, so you should have some sense of any leadership, organizational skills he could possess and deliver as a HC.

Jerry is going to have some decisions to make. That's for sure.

Glad to see someone finally admit they were wrong about Kellen Moore. But as big of a fan as I am of him, I have doubts about him being a great head coach. I think being an OC is his forte.

I've wondered that myself. A good OC or DC has a very different skill set than a good head coach.
The one place where I think it would work, is here because he has such a good relationship with Dak, who is undoubtedly the leader on this team.

he is still learning. despite everything he is only in his 3rd year as OC and 4th year at coaching at any level.

redzone is notoriously harder, so he still learning. Also, his route combination are sometimes questionable and he needs to be better there.

Kellen Moore has his pluses and strengths.. but he also has his minuses.
He’s not complete and not unflawed.
But it becomes a question of does his strengths far outweigh his minuses ?

What does Kellen brings to the Cowboys offense ?

Plus/Strengths
- Always seems to look to bring constant multi-looks and formations
- He varies spots and occasions for pre-snap motion and shifts, never seemingly giving defenses a tendency and trend
- Brings an Up tempo and quick huddle pace
- Effective Route designs, seems to scheme players in getting open (bunch, rub routes, etc)
- Brings a vertical push downfield
- Improved effort to getting RBs evolved in pass game
- Spreads and contributes the ball around to various personnel
- I used to criticize Kellen for being somewhat conservative On the Road,- that could be changing
- Improved commitment to involving Run game
- Seemingly Improved commitment to involving more Pollard

Minus/Weaknesses
- Still need improvement in Red Zone; per play call and personnel packages
- Needs continued improvement in run game scheme-design.

One play that Moore called that stood out to me was something I have always referred to as Screen left/screen right. With Zeke and Pollard on the field at the same time Dallas sent Pollard out to the left at OL men looking like they were setting up screen to the left, Dak then pump fakes, spins back to the other side where offensive players have set up blocking for screen right to Zeke. Ended up with a nice gain. That play stood out to me because it was a staple play that Staubach ran a lot.

He will be coaching the Bears next year

I wish there was a down vote button.

You know, McCarthy couldn't get another job. I wonder if Jerry hired him because he agreed to come in for one year until Kellen was ready, then be on his way. This would be good for McCarthy too, to show that he had learned and improved, and maybe get him a gig somewhere else after Dallas.

Better late than never bro. Cowboys definitely are lucky to have Kellen Moore as OC. The Eagles (who interviewed him this past Spring but passed up hiring him) are regretting it big time right now, especially after the beating this Cowboys offense put on them this past Monday night thanks to Kellen Moore. I hope we don't lose him. Cowboys need to keep KM.

Moore's going to be gone at the end of the season. Will probably end up being another Sean Payton that we'll lose out on.

This team is blessed with offensive capability. Great OC, fantastic and intelligent QB, phenomenal pass catchers, well coached OL with 2 generationally gifted players and 2 starting caliber running backs.

Credit to the players for their abilities and intelligence. Credit to the OC for putting it together and making it work. So much fun to watch.
