Before the season started I stated that I didn't think Gregory would have much impact this years because he's a rookie and rookie defensive linemen generally struggle. I was wrong. When he was in the game against the Giants the defense was looking dominant in a way I hadn't seen since the 90's. Eli became acutely aware of his presence and they ended up putting a TE on him to double team him which took away from their offensive options. Couldn't believe what I was seeing and really started feeling that this defense could become something opposing QB's would be terrified to face. Not ashamed to admit I was wrong. Hoping he comes back sooner rather than later as he raises our defensive performance to a level not seen here in a long time.

I didn't think he would be all that either. But he has really jazzed it up.

Look the kid is talented, we have to see how he progresses. Its possible once there is more film the OL coaches will see something that will require gregory to adapt.

This is a suspect Giants offensive line going under an overhaul, I wouldn't get too carried away after just one game....now with a high ankle sprain, he'll be very limited for the next month or two .....this defense isn't getting to the next level unless the interior defensive tackles gets more consistent push and pressure up the middle., then you'll see the defensive ends clean up on the sack totals

I dont expect much from rookies, and couldnt understand why so many were putting so much stock in the D being better. I dont count on any rookie making the team, let alone making the entire defense better...

Well, he is that 5% of rookies that actually do. We have been hitting on those draft picks....thats for sure.

In a month or so when we are at full strength we will be Super Bowl favorites.

Not saying you are wrong but he was facing a rookie he embarrassed last year in college.

Born to rush the passer. I'm not even worried about his weight.

I am a <little> worried about his weight.

I look at the injury, in the very first game of his career, at least partially due to the general phyics involved when a 340 lb guard (Schwartz) push up against 240 lb Gregory.

It was a rookie against a rookie in the Giants game and Gregory won. This would mean little to me if he wasn't displaying his ability all preseason, but he was tearing it up in preseason.

He's going to be good. But we'll be using him like the 49ers used Aldon Smith in 2011 (Had great results).

The Defense looked a lot better to me already.

The problem is when run a scheme that wants to limit points but we will let you chip at us all day.

Even with the game on the line we will let you chip chip chip.

So if Eli has a 3 step drop and release every play then there will be no pressure on the QB from the Cowboys or any team in history without challenging the receivers a little better.

The solution, imo, is that we need to mix in some aggressive coverages from time to time.

If we have a lead though and teams are forced to throw down field we will see a different defense.

This fan is just hoping that this defense kicks in the after burners when Gregory, Hardy, and McClain are all back.

Anyone know if Gregory was often injured at Nebraska or is this just a freak accident?

You are correct sir!

BUT...

From many it was reported during training camp that Gregory looked darn good. He could compress his frame and get around the edge like no one seen on this team since Ware left.

Flowers was a first round pick so the kid has some talent.

I think Gregory is going to be embarrassing a lot of OT's in the NFL and some of them this season.

I had major concerns with Gregory, I'm glad to say he has answered those concerns in a positive way.
