...at the Pro Bowl practice.

He said he spoke with the San Diego defensive players at the Pro Bowl practive today and they told him Wade Phillips was confident of landing the Dallas HC job. Take that for what it's worth...

I'm confident I'll get to sleep with all the models in the Victorias Secret catalog.

Doesn't mean it's gonna happen.

IMO, I don't understand how Phillips fits into your picture.

I really think if the Chargers thought they were losing Phillips, Manusky wouldnt be the DC in SF now

I, for one, am happy that Jones didn't just say meh, I'm comfortable with Norv, let's go that way. I appreciate that he is actually taking the time to turn over every possible rock.

I dont know who is getting hired but I think its pretty clear Jerry isnt 100% Norv and is actually having to make a decision here

What were they going to do, fire Phillips and make Manusky their defensive coordinator so he wouldn't leave? I don't think they can prevent Manusky from taking a defensive coordinator position with another team, even if they wanted to. Besides, Wayne Nunnely is also considered a possible coordinator if they lose Phillips.

Well if Shawne Merriman says Wade Phillips is confident in getting the job, then it must be a done deal. Phillips is gonna be the coach. All the Norv haters can rejoice now.

he was under contract wasnt he? I read where the Niners asked for permission to interview him, and they were allowed to do so...so yes, they could have prevented an interview

I'm not saying it was a lock that Manusky was going to be the DC if Phillips left, but you'd think they at least wait to see if that happened before allowing a valuable asst to leave (one that Schottenheimer and Chargers officials speak of glowingly)

I doubt the prevent the guy from being a DC elsewhere just in case Wade should leave

If Jerry truly wants to groom Garrett to be the HC in 3-4 years, then Phillips would be the logical choice...

Rivera seemed to be very confident today too...it was almost as if he knew something with his comments

talked about how Jerry waiting for him meant a lot and that he knew he could bring what this team is looking for etc.

IMHO Rivera is hired, just what title is the only question. I think it will go Norv HC, Rivera DC and JG OC. I wouldn't gripe if Norv was eliminated, but i think Jerry wants him for at least a year or two. Then hand it to who's left(JG or Rivera) Preferably JG.

Yet Rivera was quoted elsewhere saying he was only here to talk about being a HC and that was all he was interested in

could be talk but I think the guy came in trying to convince Jerry to hire him as the main guy...not really to just bring him on staff. he may take that as a last resort because he can get more money here but hopefully he makes the impression he thought he could and gets hired

Let us not forget Rivera made $775,000 last year and Lovie made $1,300,00. there are a dozen asst..coaches around the NFL that make what Lovie does, not to mention Rivera is the lowest paid DC around. It's my guess if Jerry gives him 2 million a year, he'll make the move.

If he was still under contract they could of prevented him from interviewing/leaving for any job other then a head coaching job.
