I hope it doesn't get ugly around here if we lose...

I know I'm really optimistic about our team, but knowing how it was in the preseason, and in past regular seasons here...It could get really ugly here even if we lose the first game.

There will be so much overreaction to the first game in particular...it's usually why I go in hiding during the season, because I'm such a Cowboy's homer, that I can't stand to read all the negative stuff...

Anyway, maybe we will win the first game and we can all bask in the glory. Otherwise...I'll see you guys around draft time lol...But I've got my fingers crossed that we come through and play up to all the good vibes that have been around here the last couple of weeks....We shall see.

You are right that there will be a lot of overreaction if we lose. As for me, I said in another post that a win will tell us a lot about the quality and potential for the team. San Diego is a good team and hard test for the first game. A loss on the other hand, doesn't really tell us too much if we lose because of rookie mistakes or things you can attribute to all the new faces not playing together very long. It could take time for us to jell.

I suspect we will see posts calling for Bledsoe to be tarred and feathered if he makes mistakes though.

lol yep...I agree. Bledsoe's head might virtually be ripped from his body if he doesn't play well.

I'm expecting us to lose our opener so winning would just be a plus.

We haven't won our opener in 6 years.
I'm accustomed to starting off on the wrong foot now. Especially with all the new (and young) faces.

You won't hear me overreacting.

Unless we WIN by a large margin. Then I might overreact the other way.

You know, the people who made tihngs ugly after the Arizona game will make things ugly if we lose to SD. Those are people who either don't see the bigger picture, or trully are fair weather fans. If it's January and we aren't playing, then I'll call the season a failure. Right now it's September, so I'll be a bit slower than some on throwing the season out.

I don't think losing will come as any surprise to anyone...those of us picking a Dallas win for a miriad of reasons also know deep down that we are underdogs, and underdogs lose most of the time...if they didn't, Vegas would have faded away by now. We're supposed to lose this game, and only those who love the Cowboys or want to pull out an unexpected prediction have chosen them to win.

For me, it's all about "HOW WE LOSE" if we do.

Play a good game offensively and defensively...lose a close game...some costly mental mistakes...a fumble or int...or SD makes a nice drive at the end to win---> I can live with all of that and will walk away with a very positive outlook on the season.

However, if the offense looks horrible...can't run, can't protect, Bledsoe can't get it done....or if the defense can't stop LT and the running game, or if suddenly the safeties are a step slow and the CB's not in position to make plays and SD runs us over--->yeah, you'll hear doom and gloom..and rightfully so.

If we lose ugly, there will be kool-aide drinkers trying to argue that it was to be expected, that we're young, that BP was learning about his team and is happy, that we'll still go 10-6 and end the season on a huge winning streak...blah blah blah. The bottom line is that if we lose BIG or UGLY, it will indeed be a very very bad sign for a young team with a new QB...and all the chicken littles, including me, will be back hoping this team can go 8-8 and give one of the young QB's some playing time this year.

"you are what you are.."

Can't remember who said that, maybe somebody can help me out here.

We are a 6-10 team.

Anybody that hopes for 10-6 or better is dreaming.

Actually, if we lose, I'd like to see us get whipped decisively so the team and coaches get a wakeup call and get to work after all the warm-fuzzies of the off-season signings and distractions of the spin-doctors saying Dallas is so improved.

This team still lacks leadership that has played together and BP can't go out and do the hitting and the running and the catching for them.

Time to take the diapers off.

:D

It's got to be earned and right from the get-go, this team needs to take it's lumps early and learn to get better. If the team starts out well and then fades down the stretch like in 2003, it's going to leave alot of second-guessing to come and false hope.

If the team stubbles coming out of the first 4 games, then it has time to recover against easier teams after that.

I'm all for a win this weekend, but face it..ain't going to happen. Too many squeaky wheels still needing the grease.

:banghead:

We'll see.

I'm sure there will be overreaction, there always is here...afterall, there were some goobers who suggested Tyson Thompson should be the starter over Julius Jones after a week or so of camp

if we lose its one loss...0-1...15 other games to follow...we lost in embarrassing fashion on opening night in 1993 (to a bad team) and that season turned out ok...New England got beat something like 31-0 a few yrs back by Buffalo and their season turned out ok that yr (super bowl)

There will be people talking about the next year's draft if we lose and then there will be some making SB plans if we win.

I agree. I don't think we win this game.

Whatever their schedule, bottom line is the Chargers were a 12-4 team last year. They routinely beat the teams they were supposed to beat, and on paper at least we are still a team they are supposed to beat. LT is probably the best RB we will face all year.

Adding in all the rookies playing in the their first regular season game ever, the new D, and the fact that its in SD's house, and I'll be (pleasantly) surprised if we come out of there winning.

As others have said, it will be *how* we lose that determines just how bitter I'll be about it. The O-line play in particular will be what I'm watching, because so much of our season depends on it.

Even if we lose though, I don't think there is any doubt we will be a better team in 6 weeks when some of the parts start to gel a little, so unless we are really steamrolled I won't get too excited about it.

Of course there's going to be a MAJOR overreaction.

This game is winable, but the odds are against us. If we can protect Drew & get our passing game going, we may pull off an upset. If not, it's going to be a long day. It's going to very interesting to see our full def/offensive packages in action.

Totally agree with others as far as it's HOW we lose that matters.

Hey we weren't expecting a playoff season two years ago and some still feel that we had no right being in the playoffs in the first place. With that said, who knows what could happen and I for one don't mind loosing a game but I do mind loosing and at the same time being embarrassed on TV.

Some things are just inexcusable.
