I know the off season is a long ways off, but I have a question for you cap crazy guys. Do we have enough money to lock up our own guys, and still go after someone like Justin Houston? I'm just looking at guys that would come in and be an immediate improvement. Will KC even let him go?

Bye week question. I'll get back on topic next week.

That depends on which of "our guys" you are talking about. Jerry and Stephen Jones seem to believe we can lock up Bryant and Murray. Personally, I agree with you... it's too early to be thinking about the roster next season.

We can keep whoever we want

That includes signing Dez, Murray, Rolando McClain and keeping Melton. Depending on what Free is expecting throw him in the mix too.

Our dead money is in a much better situation next year depending on what we do with Brandon Carr of course. I would expect Carr to take a decrease in pay. If he chooses not to, like Cortland Finnegan didn't, then we should let him go and receive the substantial cap savings. You can get 2 Orlando Scandrick's for what Carr is making.

Melton will probably get a long term deal by giving him the $9 million signing bonus/guaranteed money with up to a few years added onto the contract. That won't negatively effect the cap.

We should stay away from restructuring Romo but if it is an absolute need to get that 1 dynamic missing piece like a dominant pass rusher. Then we can do it. We can probably do so without having to restructure Romo.

Remember the cap is increasing and our overall team has increasingly gotten younger. After this draft there's not much room to get any younger which is a good thing when knowing the salary cap number for teams is increasing.

The age of this team and the amount of overall salary cap money is finally starting to balance out. That's with knowing we have our franchise QB playing his best football, while being signed for the next 3-4 years. Health permitting like any other QB of course.

If you are looking at the cap PAST next year, then there has to be a plan....you want to keep the names mentioned above for the most part, but keep in mind that the OL is really young and will need new contracts in a few years

The NFL cap is unknown at this point. There are estimates, but the actual cap limit is unknown.

The next issue is that how much they can spend is not really a fixed number. It depends on how much money they want to push forward into future years. If they wanted to go "all in" and do max restructures and push as much money as possible into the future, then they can probably sign everybody and add some players; however, it's unlikely that they will try to max out like that. It wouldn't be all bad if they did push money forward because when Romo is gone he'll likely be replaced with a young inexpensive QB which would offset some cap problems in future years.

x is right. they can do what ever they want and make it work. the question is really who do you keep and who do you add to help the team. this defense is a real team, meaning they may not be a bunch of stars but they play wellas a unit. adding other guys need to be guys who fit into that and that does'nt mean you have to sign elite players but players who fit well into the rotation and team. we will be able to sign ours that we want to and we could sign them all but thats not the best option to me. sign who you have to, let some guys like carter walk. maybe add a couple of solid but not super star free agents and draft well. thats to me the real key
