I get the draft so far. Can't say it's what I would have done but I get the thinking.
I wouldn't have took the risk at 34 but I see the potential. Like the DT pick. Like Zeke though I think you can get a good RB later but I get the thinking by getting the best. What really is going to make this draft though is these next 3 or so picks. We have to hit on a couple of solid if not great players.
One thing about Zeke is those who want instant gratification should love the pick

Yea, being negative wont help at this point. Its not like we are going to give him back and redo the trade. Focusing on positive are essential and not lamenting on the pick of a player who has high spirits and a positive attitude. The NFL is just as mental as physical at times.

Almost anything can happen in the NFL.

I agree
If the fans are 'positive' about a bad draft it will 'improve' the players

Personally I think that you were not positive enough and caused us to go 4-12 last year
Please try to do better in the future

Sometimes it is OK to use your 2nd round pick for something other than high risk / high reward.

In my mind at least, this was one of those times.

& you touched on the beauty of what we are doing in the war room. We got our instant grarifiation. Now we are focusing on continuing to build that strong future foundation with hopes that one or two of them will adjust earlier than the typical rookie 2-3 years.

Get what your saying about Smith he is a stud pre injury....but this team really needed a starter at DE with that second pick IMO. No issues with Collins though. Looking at what is left is there really a good DE left who can make an impact?

I believe the idea that we NEED a starter out of this draft is not entirely accurate. I believe if they could get one, they would have but not at the stake of their board. Ugahbah(lol) was apparently their top pick but when he went, Smith was it.

I have no problem with that. Picking up a foundational defensive player, I will never argue with that.

Let's not close the book on the fact that Gregory is still here and still an extremely talented player. He will be back, let's pray that he can stay on the field.

Also, the pick of collins in the 3rd frees up Crawford to kick outside. They will be ok, not to mention they can still sign a bridge type fa.

Like our draft so far. Along with defensive players, need a speedy wideout somewhere in the next three rounds.

That's me right there on the left.

GlassHalfEmptyHalfFull.jpg

It depends on how these glasses got this way.
If half empty, were yo given this full and drank half the "kool-aid" make it half empty
If half full, were you given it empty and are filling it with "kool-aid" to make it half full

Either way it's "kool-aid"

I really like our draft too. Everyone is too caught up in draft projections and 2016. If you draft in the early rounds, especially #4 and #34, for need or the upcoming season, you won't be successful in the NFL. We are acquiring great talent with the top 3 picks, and we still have 6 picks to go. Taking marginal players at positions of need gives you guys that look good on paper, but rookies that are unlikely to push our current depth like TMcClain, Irvin, Russell, JCrawford, or Mayowa behind them in 2016, and unlikely to have the talent to move ahead of DLaw or Gregory in the long term.

It seems lots of pro bowl DBs lately have come in round 5 (Sherman, Norman, even Scandrick) and there are plenty of DEs and QBs still on the board.

He's not Adrian Peterson though. Not as quick, fast, or strong. He ran a slower 40 than Marshawn Lynch.

No he has shown top be a much more complete back in college than AP ........ he is great at everything a back can do.

Likes, will keep it at likes, it's what the thread is about. I already posted dislikes in other threads.

Elliott, immediate impact player / starter, he helps the entire team, so in a sense is an impact on defense too.

Smith, could be a big huge defensive impact in 2 years. McClain on a one year deal, so Smith could replace him if ready to go and McClain not brought back.

Collins, already better than Haden, and replaces the oft injured T. McClain. Paired in rotation with Crawford and Thornton, can the middle of the D finally be what they are needing.

Rd1: This guy is ready day one. He's a freak of an athlete and he instantly restores the versatility that we have sorely missed on the offensive side of the ball in the backfield. How do you game plan for our offense now? Do you put 8 in the box and try to slow Zeke down? Dez goes nutso. Do you shade someone over or double Dez? Zeke shoves it down your throat in numerous ways. This pick alone will keep Romo upright and that makes me very happy. The buzz words have been echoed on numerous occasions since the Zeke pick and they are spot on. Drafting Zeke helps both the offense and defense. The number of offensive plays per game had gone up by 8-10 and the defense will be very thankful for that change.

Rd2: Everyone is curious about this pick but watch the tape! This guy can flat out fly sideline to sideline! He gets off blocks like butter on a hot knife. His versatility is beautiful. He's tenacious. His heart is ginormous. All roads point to superstar potential in my book and he should be afforded the usual 2-3 year rookie window to prove to us all that he deserves to be a Cowboy. This guy's has franchise player potential stenciled all over his forehead. You can't see it?

Rd3: Some defensive tackles aren't sexy. But they go to work and they love to disrupt the middle. That's what I see in this guy. A lunch pail talent that Marinelli will turn into a beast in the middle. We already know the strength is there. He squats 785. That's like squatting 2 and a half of me. Impressive to say the least. The real key here is the fact that we absolutely must get away from leaving our defensive guys (speaking mostly to the DLine) out there to dry. We have to get back to having a solid rotation that keeps guys fresh. This is a strong step in that direction.

This draft is going very well IMO. I'm seeing a visionary draft strategy that's focusing on fitting pieces together for the next several years vs instant gratification.
