I love Fluker and I'm not afraid to say it...

I'm getting to be convinced that Fluker is more dominant than Warmack, at least in drive blocking. It's amazing how thoroughly he takes his guy out of the play. The dude is gonna give up some sacks at RT though, quick sacks where he can't kick out fast enough. It almost makes me wish we would draft him as an RT and put him at RG on passing downs with Parnell at RT. Check it out, I just invented the nickel O-line! ;)

But those guys were not heavy footed players and you guys are forgetting that Callahan is trying to run more ZBS and that means even the inside guys need to be quick footed.

Dallas is supposed to have a private workout with Fluker. If you think about it, they have not brought in a small zone blocking lineman since he got here. Livings and Bernadeau are not ZBS linemen. Garrett may not want to go full scale ZBS. At least I hope he doesn't.

Saw today that Fluker graduated early today with academic honors. Really smart kid.

I agree. Want to know something strange though? Multiple scouts have gone on record saying that the team that drafts him will try him at LT first. I totally disagree, but this proves how athletic he really is for a 355 pound man.

what's NOT to like? But I simply don't think the dopes in our front office will draft him. LOVE to be wrong....he's certainly a favorite of this board similar to DeCastro last year but.....I just don't think it's gonna happen fellas.

I've watched quite a bit of Fluker film (3 full games from this year, focused solely on him). I can say with 100% conviction that this guy will be a tremendous asset to whoever picks him. I would probably start him at RT, with the ability to slide him inside to RG in my back pocket.

Go watch the SEC Champ game v. Georgia if you want to see what kind of player he is. It's incredible the way he manhandles Jenkins (350 lb. DT). I've never seen such a huge man get dominated the way Jenkins did v. Fluker.
.

He looked great in the run game against Georgia. Just drove his man back over and over. He's the perfect RT for Alabama's run-dominant system.

On passing plays, I thought he looked a little slow and susceptible to the fast edge rush. I'm not sure how that college run-game dominance would translate to the pass-happy NFL. If they want to move him to guard, I'd rather we take Warmack or Cooper if they're there at 18.

if he is there in the second (he wont be) we muct take him--and if we trade down it needs to be to a desperate team who gives us better than what folks on here are saying minnesota will give us

And the Cowboys passed on him and traded down because they were afraid of how slow footed he was.

Which turned out to be a bad move.

I don't know how good Fluker will be or how slow his feet really are as I haven't paid close attention to him. But Doug Free was an athlete, a guy with great feet. A lot of his problem last year was simply getting walked back to the QB and rushers going right through him. Maybe there's some value in a bigger, stronger player.

He's a natural pro T. I don't know where this G nonsense comes from. A guy with that frame and wingspan plays outside.

He'll be an all-rookie team RT in the league next year.

Fluker was 6'4-5/8", 339 at the combine. That size/frame does not scream OT only or OG only, IMO.

The 36+ arm length says he "could" be an OT, but it does not prohibit him from playing OG. Having an OG with OT traits is desirable, especially in the modern pass-happy NFL where pass-protection is a more critical skill for interior OLinemen than it might have been in the past.

I see Fluker as an average-at-best NFL OT due to limited foot-speed; whereas, he has the potential to be a dominant OG.

......he compares favorably to Leonard Davis IMO....that's just an eye test by the way, I don't know the 'tale of the tape' between the two. HOWEVER, where they differ is nastiness and attitude. Fluker likes to punish people and he can play for me any day: RT or OG I don't care he's a winner and a monster. I'd take him at 18 but I don't think JJ will:cool:

Leonard Davis is an excellent comparison.

Davis was a below average OT but Pro Bowl and All-Pro OG until Wade let him get too fat.

Of course it was Wade's fault that a guy in his 10th year in the league got too fat... :laugh2:

Makes you wonder why Mr. Discipline Garrett didn't just make him lose it when he took over.

He was a starter when Wade was the HC that was demoted to backup after Garrett became the HC.

He's been questionable at pass protection since he's been in the league and now that the Cowboys are playing more ZBS he would be a bad fit here.

Not if the scheme had more slanting and pulling. This is where Free thrives. An athletic guy needs to move, which is what a zone blocking scheme is all about, creating angles instead of blocking head on.

But back to the subject, DJ Fluker would be a beast at OG. He has the feet to be good in a zone blocking scheme and the strenght/size and reach in a man blocking scheme. His versatility AND value (trade down for another pick) make Fluker a no brainer.
