...I get this sinking feeling thats its going to end up being too soft to go very far. I think the talent is there but not the heart. There is no vocal leader on either side of the ball capable of willing the team to victory when its needed. I'm talking about a Michael Irvin, Ray Lewis type. I think we may be a playoff team this year and may even win a playoff game but I can't see them taking the real next step into a serious contender until a true leader emerges. Someone please convince me I'm totally wrong, because I want to be!

Can we make a Doom and Gloom zone? This fits right in there with the rest of today's threads.

Now that I've lost everything to you
You say you wanna start something new
And it's breakin' my heart you're leavin'
Baby, I'm grievin'
But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you have a lot of nice things to wear
But then a lot of nice things turn bad out there

[Chorus:]
Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
It's hard to get by just upon a smile
Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
I'll always remember you like a child, girl

You know I've seen a lot of what the world can do
And it's breakin' my heart in two
Because I never wanna see you a sad girl
Don't be a bad girl
But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you make a lot of nice friends out there
But just remember there's a lot of bad and beware

[Chorus]

Baby, I love you
But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you make a lot of nice friends out there
But just remember there's a lot of bad and beware

[Chorus]

I think you will see real leaders emerge on this team. Leaders are not just guys who flap their lips it is guys who are willing to go the extra mile and do what it takes to help their team win that is what gains respect from teammates and encourages teammates.

Eh, I had us down for a 10-6 type season.

I see no reason to change it. I am still pretty optimistic we can make a good run at the playoffs.

The only "sinking feeling" is this team sinking its teeth into its prey. This team is developing a KILLER INSTINCT and with Garrett's GCO we will put teams away. No of this "play not to lose" BS.

We will put the offensive daggers in the hearts of many teams this year... THEN... the DEFENSE can go off on opposing offenses.

You never close your eyes anymore when I kiss your lips
And there's no tenderness like before in your fingertips
You're trying hard not to show it, (baby)
But baby, baby I know it

You've lost that lovin' feeling
Whoa, that lovin' feeling
You've lost that lovin' feeling
Now it's gone, gone, gone wooooooh

Now there's no welcome look in your eyes when I reach for you
And now your're starting to critisize little things I do
It makes me just feel like crying, (baby)
'Cause baby, something beautiful's dying

You've lost that lovin' feeling
Whoa, that lovin' feeling
You've lost that lovin' feeling
Now it's gone, gone, gone wooooooh

Baby, baby, I'd get down on my knees for you
If you would only love me like you used to do, yeah

We had a love, a love, a love you don't find everyday
So don't, don't, don't, don't let it slip away

Baby (baby), baby (baby),
I beg of you please,(please) please (please)
I need your love (I need your love), I need your love (I need your love)
So bring it on back (So bring it on back), Bring it on back (so bring it on back)

Bring back that lovin' feeling
Whoa, that lovin' feeling
Bring back that lovin' feeling
'Cause it's gone, gone, gone
And I can't go on
no

Bring back that lovin' feeling,
Whoa, that lovin' feeling
Bring back that lovin' feeling
'Cause it's gone, gone

Takes more than a leader to win the Super Bowl. You need to have talent/great coaching/ no serious injuries/ some luck.

I think you have hit a nerve with this team and it's been that way for a long time.

Because of the way that BP kept a stranglehold on the media, coaches and even the owner from speaking out..there is a lack of leadership on this team.

For the last 4 years..the Cowboy sun rose and set with BP.

Before that..we had so little talent and such weak coaching that JJ was the actual leader of the team.

So there is a vacuum on this team leadership-wise.

We have players that can become leaders, but I still don't see it yet, either..like you. Guys that would standup and take responsibilty for their play and leave in on the field each week in order to win.

I think as much as this team gets keeping re-invented..it still stays the same. For 4 years and more, they wilt in the second half of seasons and start fast making everybody think we finally have gotten over the hump.

Now it's happening again under Phillips.

We'll see, but until this team steps up and shows some 'dig-in and fight' mentality..with leadership to go with it on the field..I think what we mostly have is a bunch of over-paid, over rated and poorly motivated and lead players masquarading as a contending team.

I'm hoping I'm wrong. I'm hoping we have the leadership that will now step up and take control of the destiny of this squad.

But I don't see anything yet that really I feel is very different from previous years.

Last year under Parcells, we drafted Carp with our #1 choice and couldn't start him or find a place for him.

Then this year, under Phillips, we draft Spencer, another #1 pick that by all accounts isn't ready to start and originally wasn't intended to had Ellis returned and now we have to start him anyway.

So for the last 2 drafts, we have fizzled at drafting impact players with our #1 picks and that to me doesn't bode well with where this team is going.

Good teams don't squander #1's like this and the last time we started mis-firing on #1's was when we went into a 10 year playoff draught.

I remain hopeful but realistic.

This team is still a work in progress and direction is really unknown.

We'll see.

Redball, you make some points I agree with concerning the team of the last couple of years, but you have to admit that it's way too early to say the same things about this team. We have new coaching, new philosphies, and some new players... Let's see what happens as we get into the real season.

Who is fiery on the Colts, who just won the super bowl? Bob Sanders? Hardly. He just hits guys hard, but we have several guys who can do that.

They have Peyton Manning, who is just good, and leads by example.

Who is fiery on the Bears? Urlacher? Not really, he's just very good and leads by example.

Who is fiery on the Patriots? Nobody really, they just play as a team and have a great QB who leads by example.

Get the idea yet? You don't need a loudmouth to lead you to a superbowl, you just have to outplay the other team. In my opinion, Terence Newman is a good leader, he leads by example. Roy and Bradie have that Ray Lewis type leadership where they hit a guy and get all fired up over it, but you don't need that to win.
