and some of you old timer media guys know what I'm talking about, so chime in.

Pre-Valley Ranch, the media would consist of maybe the local NBC/CBS/ABC TV affiliates, 3 news paper guys, MAYBE an AP guy, and a couple of Radio stations, for a grand total of 9 people max asking questions. Made for a very doable press conference, with somewhat more intelligent questions (except Hansen, LOL).

Hence lies the problem of today. Over the last 25 years, we have had too many kids go to college to get into TV or Radio Broadcasting. And on top of that, the Millions of URL's out there in the new media called the web.

Now I would rather listen to the big "Brick and Motar" media, but they have got so watered down with non-qualified reporters, I have to go somewhere else sometimes.

I am at a loss. What should I do? Take some PILLS?

:)

i remember a time when, if you wanted sporting news, you waited for the 6 or 10 oclock local news or next days newspaper.

Sir the "Good ole media Days" are gone, na da, no more to be.

I think today can be said to be pretty good days.....The Internet, news breaking in minutes after it happening, putting you on the scene (live) within minutes.....I' would have given my left foot to have such a tool back in 60's.

Today we simply need to be able to separate the good reporting fom the bad and we'll be ok.

Are you kidding?

Don Henley nailed it.

I make my living off the evening news
Just give me something-something I can use
People love it when you lose,
They love dirty laundry

Well, I coulda been an actor, but I wound up here
I just have to look good, I dont have to be clear
Come and whisper in my ear
Give us dirty laundry

Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em all around

We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who
Comes on at five
She can tell you bout the plane crash with a gleam
In her eye
Its interesting when people die-
Give us dirty laundry

Can we film the operation?
Is the head dead yet?
You know, the boys in the newsroom got a
Running bet
Get the widow on the set!
We need dirty laundry

You dont really need to find out whats going on
You dont really want to know just how far its gone
Just leave well enough alone
Eat your dirty laundry

Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down

Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre stiff
Kick em all around

Dirty little secrets
Dirty little lies
We got our dirty little fingers in everybodys pie
We love to cut you down to size
We love dirty laundry

We can do the innuendo
We can dance and sing
When its said and done we havent told you a thing
We all know that crap is king
Give us dirty laundry.

I wouldn't miss this circus for all the koolaid in the world. Where else could you have this much fun for free?

HighTechDave, I do miss some aspects of the "good ole days." Local sport reports had greater access. They got to know individual players better. They had closer working relationships with at least some of the coaches. I think the reporting was more personal - in a friendly, familiar sort of way. I'm sure that some stuff was swept under the carpet and maybe by today's standards, the reporting was overly sentimental. But as a fan, I enjoyed that sort of thing.

But, as Cbz40 says, there are huge strengths with today's technology. He's right when he says:
Today we simply need to be able to separate the good reporting from the bad and we'll be ok.

This rubbish actually made "Entertainment Tonight" and with the "suicide" storyline.

Appalling.

I agree.

Then it is OUR job to check the news, call out the idiots, shame them into reporting correctly, not use/watch/listen to their product if they continually "half-assed" report without investigating.

They better start getting it right, or them and their sources will not be protected in court, because the judge will decide they are not Journalist because they SUCK so bad.

Of course, this IMHO.

I'm telling you right now, any report from my local reporter is in serious question after all this caos.

ATTENTION MEDIA!!!! They are just lil old football players, not Brittney or Hollywood stars!!
