I shouldn't be thinking about 2008 but...

Even though I'm a big Julius fan based on how he looked his rookie year, I have never been one to think the guy would become a dominant back. Yeah, he's got some quicks and enough speed to hurt you, but I just don't think he plays physical enough to ever be an elite back.

I'm pulling for him, and I do believe he's good enough to get 1300 yards rushing with this offense if Romo & the O-line becomes what I think they can.

But when the 2008 draft rolls around if we have an opportunity to pick a guy with truly elite potential as I hear McFadden does then I think we'll wave good-bye to very good (Julius) in an effort to become great.

No doubt I'm spoolied because of Emmitt, Tony, Herschel etc., but I like our offense a whole lot more when we can play run to set up the pass instead of vice-versa like it is now. I guess I still have 90's Cowboys on the brain. That, and I want to win multiple SB's with this current crew.

Nothing wrong with wanting the best for the team and if given the oppertunity to get an elite RB I would not think twice about it.

I clicked on the subject because I was going to say "Go Giuliani!!!!" But when the 2008 draft rolls around, I think you have to take the best player on the board regardless of position. If it's McFadden, then great. If it's not, then that's fine too.

I just barely made it through this offseason. Do you NOT care that I'm tryin' to quit sniffin' glue?! I'm already whackin' down a six pack and a bottle and a half of Jack Daniels every night. Ya know, to calm my nerves. Sheesh! :)

I'm looking forward to seeing college season and seeing McFadden and other top backs who may be coming out next year. When you figure you have a high draft pick next season it makes the college games even more interesting.

wow this is the first time i've heard this ever

Actually, I've heard very little what I consider to be reasonable conversation around Jones & Barber.

I've seen a ton of pom-pom waving for either side of the Jones v Barber fence, in which both sides tend to be blinded to their respective favorites shortcomings, and certainly there has been no shortage of drool over McFadden, but my point really is a bit different imo.

The point being, while even winning a single SB is fun, I think Cowboy fans are used to long runs of contention, and even a team that wins multiple bowls (our 90's run and the 70's to a lesser degree). I don't aspire for this team to be the next Bucaneers, one and done.

I'm just saying that I like our odds a whole lot better with greatness at RB instead of just very good. I think we even have that potential for greatness at several positions on this team (QB, WR, LB, and DB's). I just want the equivalent of Thomas, Dorsett or Emmitt in the backfield. I guess I've come to expect it.

Those backs are a big reason this franchise has had the success it has seen over the years.

The big reasons we were so successful is we always managed to have great QBs along with great RBs & WRs. When you throw in a really good defense & usually a very good OL, it's SB bound.

We haven't seen enough from our team in these few practices to tell us anything. We will know a lot more about this team this time next week.

Personally, I have seen enough of Romo to get my hopes up very high. I'm glad we passed on Quinn and expect we'll do the same with next years top college QB that I hope we get a shot at (to gather more picks :)).

At WR (TO & Glenn), QB (Romo), LB (Ware), CB (Newman), TE (Witten), I'm declaring we are or potentially are great at those spots. I want to add RB to that list.

Another week of practice isn't gonna change my thoughts on those folks one way or the other.

Knowing we have a decent shot at a high pick will give me more of a reason to watch college ball than I do already. Other than that, it's a long way to December and knowing the teams' final records.

Let the thing happen. Pop a beer and get ready for some football. All this speculation is just noise anyway.:D
