Why would he take a severe paycut from a veryeasy, low-pressure job to be an 18-hour-a-day head coach with the world on his shoulders?

Exactly. He paid his price to the game (concussions) to be able to enjoy the time he can now spend with his family. So sense changing that now if you're Aikman.

Troy is one of my all time favorite Cowboys, but I'm not so sure he has the personality to be a head coach. I have no doubt he has the smarts to do it, just not sure its something he is suited for.

Pre-internet article listed QBs that became coaches and the record was not good, Bart Starr was mentioned.

Taking a stab at it, a QB has to get along with the players to the point it might interfere with the need to be forceful as a coach.

Be interesting to list pro QBs that have been coaches.

Troy, Emmitt and Irvin = none are coaching material.

The Irvin one always cracks me up. Truly great HOF player very rarely make good head coaches, in that, they CANT COACH a player to be like them, they were given abilities that didn't have to be coached.

Ted Williams, one of the greatest left handed hitters of all time was a miserable failure as a HC. He couldn't teach a .230 hitter to be a .290 hitter, probably just didn't know how.
