On at least one thing.

The Commanders and the Cowboys are both not represented enough in the HOF.

Aikman, Irvin, Wright, Hayes, Pearson, Monk, Clark, Grimm, Jacoby.

All belong in the HOF.

I think we can also agree that the Steelers have more HOF'er than they deserve.

Lynn Swann and John Stallworth?! ***!?

Swann had 336 catches!

I think that Irvin should be borderline. It depends how a voter would look at the situation. If a voter looks solely on the on-field player, he would vote Yes. If a voter looks at both on-field and off-field(which I would look at), he would most likely vote No...

You're damn right, and so does Harry Carson of the Giants.

Borderline? He should be a lock. On the field is all that matters and the voters know it. Off the field doesn't matter. It is black and white. Anyone who votes "no" needs to be reminded of the voting criteria.

Exactly. It's a joke to put guys like Swann, Stallworth and LT in there and then say Irvin doesn't deserve to be in there with them. I have lost some much respect for those guys who do the voting because of things like this. I don't understand why when they could have voted in at least 2 more players last year the voters decided no other player was worthy of induction. Oh that was because there were 2 Cowboys that should have easily made it, but that just couldn't be allowed to happen. I mean 2 last year, Troy this year and Emmitt right around the corner, the voters just couldn't open the flood gates and make up for all those years they have ignored the otherwise hall of fame careers.

Irvin's on field numbers merit his inclusion in any hall of fame discussion, to think otherwise is ignoring the fact that players with far less credentials are already in there.

I'm pretty sure every team thinks they get snubbed in every way. Every team's fans think that their borderline HoF guys should get in.

HoF is for the best of the best. Period. None of the voters have a grudge here -- some great players just simply aren't good enough to make the cut. That is why it is an honor.

My thoughts on Lynn... if definitely wasnt he numbers(quantity) but he got it done when it counted. I know that is not how you go about electing to HOF. But for me that is bigger than stats. Get the blinkies.

When Terry Bradshaw was asked about his QB rating he answered - Four SB Wins. Gotta love that.

Without a doubt... Irvin was a MAJOR cog in that SB run. He should be in. Off the field shouldnt matter. Its not the Hall of Moral Famers.

I think it is stupid to look at the guys who didn't get in and say "well if this guy got in then so and so should be in" - if you use that criteria you end up with more crap players in the hall. Look at the average production for those positions -- adjusted by era - then you'll get some sense of what players need to produce to be in the hall. And guess what -- that average will be much higher than that one low guy you pull out.

Did Art Monk ever get in? If he didn't is he still eligible?

He has not been inducted and yes he is still eligible, he is among the 15 finalist again this year.

Not debating whether or not Monk is worthy of induction into the Hall of Fame, but IMO Monk's case isn't as clear cut as Irvin's. Monk's stats are more a product of the number of years he played vice be and and even bigger problem facing Monk is he wasn't even the best WR on his team during the Commanders superbowl years.

If LT is in the HOF then so should Irvin.

LT was one of the best of his era, if not the best of all time.

Irvin was one of the best of his era and was arguably the most valuable player of one of the NFL’s greatest dynasties. Irvin was also without question the heart, soul and inspiration of the dynasty. For years Irvin stared on one of the greatest teams in the history of the NFL.

The H.O.F. is for this league’s greatest football players. What they did off the field shouldn’t mean a damn thing.

I know I'm preaching to the chior but.......

Irvin -

top 10 career receptions for a WR

top 10 career yards for a WR

inspirational leader

3 super bowl rings

all accomplished before career ending injury otherwise stats would have been higher

Woulda. Woulda. Woulda. Irvin was involved in stuff that offsets some of this -- at least in enough voters eyes. 1 or 2 more seasons woulda made it impossible not to vote him in.

and while we all associate him with the 3 rings -- many associate him with the post-SB team's fall and bad image. he was kinda the insipration leader for that too.
