I think we will still get one Secondary player in FA before the Draft

As it currently stands,

We cut, traded, or have not re-signed

1. Roy Williams (SS)
2. A Henry (CB)
3. K Davis (SS)
4. PacMan Jones (CB)

Our roster CBs with any real experience include
1. Newman
2. Jenkins
3. Scandrick
4. Ball (limited experience)

Our Safties include (other than possibly moving Scandrick)
1. Hamlin
2. Watkins - I'm wondering if his stingers aren't going to be a recurring injury given the way he tackles. BP was right . . . .
3. C Brown - I don't think he makes the team.
4. Tra Battle - I guess he was better than Brown.

Frankly said, in our Secondary, I only really like 5 of the players. As for Watkins, I'm on the fence with him. I think he's going to have an abbreviated career the way he tackles. Even if we include him, that's 6 players.

I could see us needing another 3-4 Secondary players before the season starts.

I can't see us getting all of them in the Draft either. Maybe we get 2 in the Draft. Remember, even though we will have a total of 11 picks (incl. comp picks), I doubt JJ keeps them all. We'll probably end up with about 8 pics when all is said and done.

I think so we can go BPA and not put pressure on drafting secondary players, JJ/Wade will have to pick up another CB or Safety.

Opinions?

I think Keith Davis will come back.
Sean Jones was the best available S and Philly took him so we'll see if we sign anyone.
I think We'll draft both positions.

So who is available?

Some players that peak my intrest but would not break the bank

CB Chris Carr: Solid CB, can serve as the 4th or 5th corner and help on the return team

CB Bryant McFadden: Again, not a starter but has shown to have a nose for the ball. Word is right now Arizona is offering 3-4mil annually.

S Darren Sharper: A little long in the tooth but could help the transition for what ever young S we have back there next year.

CB Dre Bly: The only older CB I feel could offer some thing. We have a young core of CB's. I would prefer to add another vet to fill in as the 3rd or 4th corner.

There are a few other who I think could help and come at a decent price. Carr or McFadden are my two favorite off that list.

I'd prefer Carr as well. Also, he can help us in the return game.

Big Dog, I'm glad you asked.

Here are some guys who I think are available.

1. C McAlister, Balt - One of the better man to man corners in the league, though the past 2 seasons have seen him more on the sideline than on the field.

2. Chris Johnson, Oak - I think he's still available. Played well enough to maek D Hall expendable.

3. B FcFadden, Pitts - Not top flight, but pretty solid.

4. E King, Tenn - Season came to an end due to broken forearm. Developed into a solid backup over the past 3 years.

5. C Carr, Tenn - Their primary punt/kick returner. His 28.1 yard kick return avg was 4th best in the league, and his 10.1 yard punt return avg was middle of the pack.

6. Justin Miller, Oak. - Also did nice job as kick returner, avg 24.8 yards.

7. Ty Law, NYJ - :) Had to throw his name out there.. He's 34 years old, but did pretty well considering he didn't have much practice time.

8 Jason Craft, St Louis - 33 yrs old, but proved to be a very capable backup. Displayed good feel in coverage, he was also effective on the blitz with 3 sacks. (I think he's still available as well.)

9. Daven Holly, Cleveland - Enjoyed breakout year in 2006 with 5 ints and nice job in coverage. The following season the big plays disappeared. He spent this past season on the sideline with a knee injury.

This list is definitely not exhaustive. Please feel free to throw out a few more names.

Teams always cut some solid vets after the draft and on June 1st as well.

Just because there isn't nothing on the market today doesn't mean there eventually wont be.

I think as for Safeties, the following players are available right now,

1. Gerald Sensabaugh, Jacksonville - Known for ability to excel in the box, tied for tops on the team with 4 ints.

2. Vincent Fuller, Tenn - Not sure if he has signed elsewhere. But he has a good enough feel in coverage and impressive enough athletic ability to be used as their nickel back. He's also a good STs player.

3. James Butler, NYG - Finished tied for tops on team with 3 ints. and did a respectable job at Safety.

4. Mike Brown, Chic - Injuries have taken their toll, and he's just turned 31.

5. Darren Sharper, Minn - Had just one int in 2008.

6. Josh Bullocks, NO

7 Tank Williams, NE - They were experimenting with him as hybrid S-LB, before another knee injury sidelined him for the season.

Of course, our own Keith Davis.

These are but a few names still out there at Safety.

I don't think that June 1st has the same significance this year as in previous years as some have been discussing on the Board.

Justin Miller is the only cb on those lists I'd consider. Carr is a KR playing cb.

This is why it is worth using a 5th to take the risk on Dawan Landry who is available for a 5th. If his neck has healed he is better than any S we have on this team

Is Philip Buchanan still available?

If so, I'd consider him.

He could help out at corner and with punt returns.
