I'm not saying they are the Denver Broncos but they keep getting better and better week after week.

We don't give up many big plays and we make teams earn almost every score they get.

Everyone was freaking out that we lost to the Giants but they were ignoring that our defense played really good and that has always been the X-factor for our team.

The pass rush is coming on... We should be getting Claiborne back soon and Randy Gregory could offer something extra to our pass rush.

Also, David Irving and Benson Mayowa are really starting to step up and Sean Lee is playing like 2 guys out there.

My biggest worry about our defense is having them on the field with the game on the line. Well twice last night we had them out there with the game on the line and they held both times.

We are tied for 4th in PPG allowed with 18.4.

I feel the same. Plus we are starting to force turnovers. 7 turnovers in 2 weeks is excellent.

The problem with our defense, and defensive scheme, is that we will have issues when/if we meet very efficient offensive teams, who are more than willing and capable of dink and dunking the ball down the field on long drives. The one thing going for us is that our defense seems to get better in smaller spaces, which helps turn a lot of potential touchdowns into field goals.

Agreed, but who doesn't struggle against these types of teams?

The Broncos are the best defense in the NFL and they aren't going to make the playoffs because they can't get anything from their offense.

For me.. Dallas, NYG, NE, and the Chiefs are the most well balanced teams right now.

We need to get back to keeping the football and not getting penalized and we have a really good recipe for success.

Score 20+ and keep teams under 20.

And the D still has not given up a 100 yard game to a runner yet.
Rushing D has been great.
I still do not like we give up too many passes to open players. I know we can't stop them all the time, they will make plays and get their yards. But they are improving even at that.
The D has been making those stops late in the game, as to last year they didn't.

Yeah, my whole problem is that I don't trust our D. Largely because it has been playing above its level of talent. At some point you expect a regression to the mean.

They are the little defense that can. Have to give them credit. they're not great but they have stepped up at big times the last few games.

Most teams though stretch the field against defenses to open up the mid-range throws. Our style of defense is designed to frustrate the offense into dinking and dunking, even when that's not their play style. Some teams though, like the Cowboys and Patriots are perfectly content with a steady dink/dunk/run progression down the field. You could tell last night that Winston was wanting to go deep, but nothing was there because our defense does its best to prevent those long plays.

I really liked the defense for three quarters last but not the third quarter. that quarter showed that our safety play if still a big problem. also carr scares me more then the rookie on the other side.

What they do is repeatable.

You can count the number of big plays on 1 hand we've gave up all year. Teams have to put together drives to score on us.

Occasionally a CB may bite on a double move against Desean Jackson or Brandon Carr will tip a ball in a WR's hands and Collinsworth will act like it's the best throw ever but we make teams earn their TD's.

well the lions like to dink and dunk there way down the field. so we may be in for a long game Monday night. we really need irving to show up again to stop Stafford. Stafford always has great games against the cowboys.

They just put together a really good drive with the Brate TD.

That's hard to replicate over and over and Jameis Winston being a turnover machine is not capable of consistently having those kind of drives.

I trust everyone on our defense to do their job. I just don't expect a lot of playmaking from our defenders.

Yeah and that drive cost me a chance at a fantasy championship. I know its not relevant to this conversation, but im upset haha. On your point, getting Mo back this week, and Gregory will definitely help. Immensely. Mo was one of the top CBs in the NFL before he got hurt, i believe he was in the top 10 discussion. Gregory who yes hasnt shown much can get into game shape the next 2 games and hopefully round into form after the bye if we get it.

Well, it's now been 14 games so I guess this regression needs to hurry up before the season ends.

It only takes regression in one playoff game to end this wonderful ride. Hopefully it won't happen. You're a more trusting person than I if you actually trust that it won't happen.
