27th pick in the draft for a proven LT, who is only 24 years old? YES! Dump Flozell Adams and Gaither would resign for more than likely less than Flo is getting.

Sign Atogwe and dump Hamlins contract, maybe a little bit more but he is a much better player. The difference we save between the Flo and Gaither contract would makeup for the difference here.

This instantly makes us a much better team.

unless the cowboys brass thinks free is going to be the future LT . . . .

could very well be.

He was also quite the RT.

Gaither/Koiser/Gurode/Davis/Colombo with Free at swing tackle and taking over as starting RT half way through the season is great.

I posted the same thing last night on another forum.

These 2 moves upgrade us, make us younger, and allow us to get rid of 2 awful contracts.

If you can land Gaither without giving up the 1st then maybe you dont go after Atogwe.

2011 1st for Gaither would be a great move too imo.

McClain is screwing up his offseason so bad that he may be sitting there for us on draft day as well.

i thought he did well at rt, for sure.

but, colombo isn't going anywhere. the cowboys just paid his roster bonus. i think the cowboys could have free pegged as their LT. I'd guess brewster would be developed at a RT/OG prospect and provide depth down the line.

just me guessing . . . .

One day people are going to realize that we are limited to under $6 million to sign a single FA. I am awaiting the day people will stop acting like Daniel Snyder.

I may be wrong but that's only for URFA right? Gaither is a RFA, so that restriction wouldn't apply to him, right?

And one day you'll get the facts right, or maybe you wont. They are both RFA's so we can pay them whatever we want to.....

It's called a self-imposed team budget.

You're already paying top dollar for these positions so you dump these bad contracts in a uncapped year which save you money and go pick up some bigtime young talent.

And then what happens when you spend big time money on that big time young talent, and a new CBA gets signed and there's a new salary cap in place?

Hamstrung.

Signing Gaither would be exactly the kind of move that people here love to point to when criticizing Jerry Jones as a GM - breaking the bank on a player that will have bad implications for the future progress and roster of this team. I would like to be able to sign Miles Austin long term and maybe have a run at Larry Fitzgerald in 2 years when his contract expires in Arizona if the whole Roy Williams thing doesn't work out, and then on top of that maybe be able to give a guy like Felix Jones or Doug Free enough of an extension so that they don't walk away to go play for someone that wisely spent their money in the miraculous uncapped year.

Think about how a Bears fan must feel right now - 6 years, $90M+ to Julius Peppers, no 1st round pick for the next 2 years, your QB situation is in shambles and you STILL don't have a WR and don't look to be able to draft anyone decent in the next TWO years. AND they gave Cutler a giant contract in the midst of a 20+ INT season.

That franchise has effectively been destroyed for the next 10 years with the Peppers signing.
