As fans, we all live and die with our favorite team, riding the highs and lows along the way. There are many differing opinions, attitudes, and points of view, but ultimately every one of us wants to see the Cowboys win.
And I can't think of a game I want to see them win more than this one.
And the reasons are many:
For Tony Romo, who is having the best season of his career. A guy who has matured into the leader this team needed. A guy who has worked hard to correct his flaws and take himself and his team to the next level. Despite his tremendous December performance, he still hasn't shut up the clueless detractors who now point to his playoff record for their last shred of evidence against him. Win this one and they've got nothing left to dog you about.
And to stick it to the classless masses of Philthadelphia and the weasels like Dave Spadaro. Folks who have no respect for their opponents, their own team (unless they're winning!) and even themselves. I think there's a reason why their team never wins - it's called karma.
For Wade Phillips, a guy who many (self included!) have vigorously criticized. I'm rooting for Wade to win this game to shake that "no playoff wins" monkey off of his back and to (maybe) get some credit for the job he's done in Dallas. I readily admit that I disagreed with his approach but the proof is in the pudding and he's shown that he knows what he's doing. I think a playoff win gets him another year in Dallas - and he deserves it.
For Jason Witten, one of the best role models in all of sports. A guy who works his tail off each and every day and is an example to anyone who watches him - both on and off the field. He's already one of my all-time favorite Cowboys and I would love to see his hard work pay off for him.
For Jerry Jones, one of the best owners in all of sports. While I don't always agree with Jerry's "socks to jocks" approach, I know the man has the best intentions at heart. Nobody wants to win more than he does and nobody takes the playoff drought harder than he does. While we can question his methods, we can't question his passion, drive, or commitment. He's worked hard at trying to field a winner and I'd like to see his hard work payoff.
For Donovan McNabb. Yes, Donovan McNabb. I'd like to see that selfish, front-running, back-stabbing clown run out of town on a rail. I'd like to see him roasted on the spit of the townsfolk of Philadelphia. And you know that's exactly what will happen if the Eagles lose. That entire city will turn on him like they do to anyone who doesn't win for them. They'll "eat their own" like they always have. And he'll soon to exiled to some NFL wasteland like Oakland to finish out his remaining days. And it couldn't happen to a "classier" guy.
For DeSean Jackson, another classless punk who fits right in with Philthadelphia. Don't let the fact that you've been shut down each time you've played the Cowboys this season stop you from running your mouth. Why should logic enter the picture? If I could actually understand all of the gibberish you were spouting, I'd be really mad!
Granted, would I want for them to ultimately win it all?
Of course.
We all would.
But this fan doesn't need that to consider this season a success.
Or to be encouraged by where the team is headed.
Or to actually be hoping that the coaching staff would be returning next year.
This win shuts the critics up. And you know who I'm talking about:
Rod Woodson and Marshall Faulk who take every opportunity to criticize, minimize, or otherwise attack the Cowboys - shut up has-beens!
The bitter clowns from ESPN - sorry the Cowboys didn't want you anymore Keyshawn Johnson. Sorry they slapped your Bills and 49'ers around repeatedly Boomer!
Or the rest of them, from the Wilbons to the First Take bunch who just throw "stuff" out and see what sticks.
For all of these people, and all of these reasons.
More than any game I can remember.
I want this one.
