how this board would have reacted in 1977 when the 8-0 Cowboys were "exposed" 28-13 to the Steelers on national tv and then lost the next week to the Cardinals on two late TD passes by Jim Hart. I wonder if people back then would have said the game had passed Landry by, that our d was exposed and not championship calibre etc

Has the internet age made people far more negative? When I was young, I never remember fans turning on teams/players as quickly as they do now.

Before yesterday, most of the posters here were on their knees for Romo, now there are rumblings he can't win when it counts or against good teams etc

What is it about internet message boards that makes them so negative?

Good post.

I think a lot of it has to do with all the negative press and the investigative journalism that has engulfed the media today. The role of the media in America and specifically the American psyche has gone vastly under the radar. Everything changed when Walter Cronkite told us we were losing the Vietnam war. Now journalist feel the need to feed us all the negative press they can for that's what sells. Think about it. Watch your nightly news tonight, I bet there isn't one feel good story that runs. Well, there might be because of the holidays, but in general, it's all negative.

I think with the internet we are able to access information, acquire various things a lot more quickly than before. The "negativism", I think, is a symptom of us being an "on-demand" society as a whole. We want results and we want it NOW! If we are not met with instant gratification, then generally we get very upset and want to find another avenue to gratify us. That, I think, accounts for the multitude of "fire BP, Roy sucks, we need a real QB " posts after a loss.

Just my $.02

In 1977, weren't we only 2 years removed from a SB appearance? Hadn't we been to three SB's the previous 6 years? I think so. So I think Landry would've got the benefit of the doubt at 8-2 in 1977.

Now, it's been 11 years since we've been to a Super Bowl and haven't won a playoff game since '96.
This isn't like a perennial Super Bowl contender stubbing it's toe, it's about a team that hasn't won anything substantial in a decade getting blown up again in December. Two totally different teams and circumstances.

I don't buy that argument. People were probably more deferential back then but no way after two losses like that today, even if we had won or been an SB a couple of years ago, that the reaction would be calm.

You are comparing the total annilation last night to those two games? Those two were losses. Last night was total disintegration and destruction.

Im a realist. I look at it this situation the way it is. Going into the game, we were the best team in hte NFC. There is no doubt we looked alot mroe cmplete than everyone else. We got whooped badly last night.

I think that was sort of an anomaly type game.

Ok, a better example would be the 38-0 thrashing the Cardinals gave us in 1970 on Monday Night. That surely would qualify as total disintegration and destruction, right? Funny, but the Boys bounced back to win the NFC and almost (should have ) beat the Colts in Super Bowl V.

Well imagine the bloody murder we'd see here if we were to lose an actual playoff game like 60-9 after 3 or 4 years of mediocrity.

Couse thats exactly what happened to Jimmy down in Miami yet a lot of people would welcome him back here with open arms.

Funny how that works.

It was just one of those games to you know the Saints, just smoked us on both side of the ball.

But I'm not going to jump off a cliff because of it back in 2001, the Rams, smoked the Patriots, in the reg season only for the Rams, to lose the SB, to the NE.

The just outcoached us but I'm not calling Tony, a bust at all we seen what he did to Indy, and NYG, but the Saints, were not known for their defense what played into the Saints hands is that we abandoned our running attack when we were very successful running the ball JJ, had 7 carries 109 yds TD, in the first half because the Saints, came to Texas Stadium wanting to take away the pass and they did that is why I would want to play them again in the playoffs because I know the ground game will be there and then attack through the air.

But I agree with your post.

We're upset because it's been 4 years and we see some of the same problems. Romo didn't have a good game at all, but he gets a pass in my mind.

But for us to roll out a non pass rushing team after 4 years is sad, and that's why people get upset over losses where we're seeing the same old stuff.

Most arent saying Roy sucks we are saying he is terrible in coverage and is getting toasted for at least one big pass pretty much every week. When are they going to make some defensive adjustments so he isnt in those situations. Anyone complaining about offensive playcalling or Romo needs to have their heads examined in my opinion. The offense ran 6 plays in the first quarter and not too many more then that in the 2nd. This game just snowballed out of control plain and simple. Gramatica makes the FG at half and the PI flagged isnt picked up vs TO and Dallas is right back in the game. That said there has to be some type of adjustments in personnel or scheme on defense. I dont know what the solution is but Im not making $5 million a year to figure it out either.

I've wondered the same thing about that very year. I do remember a classmate saying he was a Cowboys fan, then the last game of that year and the Super Bowl he was a Broncos fan. I guess the emotional roller coaster has always been there. It just never seemed so extreme as nowadays.

I agree, even at 21-7, it was still close enough for us to get back in it but before you knew it, the score was 42-17 and it was over.
